Description Turn of the century Occult hero Spider-man.

Raised by his Aunty Mae and Uncle Ben, young Peter Parcoeur was lucky to have the best education available to a Negro child of his time. His uncle had fought in the war, and instilled in Peter a strong sense of honor and duty to his fellow man. When his uncle became involved in a dispute with a white business owner and refused to back down, he was murdered by a white lynch mob.

It was in this dark hour that Peter was approached by the Spider God-- who offered him great powers to protect the oppressed. The strength, agility, and cunning of a spider allowed him to become a masked vigilante devoted to bringing down the powerful and corrupt and saving the meek and innocent. Peter maintains a cover as a paperboy and runner for the powerful and pro-Democrat Dixie Bugle.

Look up Miles Morales.

To me, Spider-Man was always the underprivileged superhero, so any redesign that makes him an actual minority feels natural to me. As if he was meant to be like that all along.

This origin makes way more sense than "radioactive spider bite". I love Anansi, so I think this is just fantastic!

This version reminds me of the pulp fiction spiderman. Who also got his powers through mystical means and avenges the downtrodden. However your Spider-Man doesn't fight crime during the Great Depression.

You got the Marvel Heroes. Now get to work on the villains! > I saw that someone else gave you an idea for the origins of the occult version of The Lizard, so I'll give you mine for the occult version of Venom; Occult Venom is an incorporeal demon, masquerading as a benevolent spirit, that attached itself to Spider while he was putting a stop to a summoning ceremony for a much more powerful demon. Having no body of it's own, Occult Venom began the long process of taking over Peter's body, slowly eating away at Peter's soul to make room for itself. Luckily Peter caught on to the demon's plans, and had Occult Venom exorcised from himself. I think you can handle things from there. c;

I now wish to refine the other persons' idea for Occult Lizard, this is also a chance to bring in a little Lovecraft lore into the mix. The Voodoo priestess instead of getting the attention of one the Loa, she get's the attention of something far more dangerous, the 'Father of Serpents', Yig.

I thought it was a good idea. As for Occult Eddy Brock, I'm thinking he's a power hungry white supremacist with a grudge against the Spider for helping to send him to jail for arson.Occult Venom preyed upon these feelings of greed and wrath, with a promise of power, in return for 'co-inhabitation' of Occult Brock's body.

I can imagine Anansi (wearing lemon yellow gloves) approaching a young, depressed Peter with a most interesting offer. I would love to see this as a comic, but just the concept is fantastic enough.

THIS. Thiiiiiis. Again, I love how you redesign all of the American Superhero guys, and how you pack so much history into their bios.

Speaking of Spidy, Japan had their own (Marvel-approved) version of Spider-Man. This Spidy, however, was a hotheaded motorcycle racer with a flying car and a giant robot. Hahah, Japan. [link]

genesischant In reply to Tofubeast [2009-07-04 19:53:50 +0000 UTC]

YES!

And if I recall, their Spider-Man received his powers from a race of alien Spider people. I've watched a few episodes, actually. Pretty great stuff! I seem to remember them losing their financial backing early on, though-- which led to a really terrible pattern of re-using footage.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tofubeast In reply to genesischant [2009-07-04 20:27:23 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that's a shame. D: They should remake the Japanese Spider-Man and have Toei back it--or at least get the Kamen Rider team to work on it.

That would be AWESOME.
