Description Me: ...You know, I've considered Bass X Roll once.
David: PLEASE EXPLAIN.

See, David and I are pals. I disgust him with my weird interests and findings, and he disgusts me with his tales of what lurks on E-Chan.

Well, if it's an explanation he wants, he's getting it!

See, throughout the course of MM9 (and I've begun work on it, YAY), Bass is trying to find something. Not physical. Bass realizes that it's Megaman's humanity that allows the Blue Bomber to kick Bass in the ass over and over again. (Not the sense of justice thing...) Thus, Bass reasons that if he, too, shed some of his robotic traits, he could finally triumph over Megaman.

So, Bass starts observing Wily's most "human" robot, Zero (who has flaws of his own). Then he kinda stalks him. Bass notices that "downtime" (see below) doesn't bother Zero in the slightest, whereas that lack of actual sleep worries Bass.

"Downtime" is a temporary shutdown of robots. It involves a whole ton of wires and standing motionless for hours upon hours at a time like a damn fence post...Anyhoo, said robot's optical sensors are still on, albeit everything is in scanline mode. So, it isn't actual SLEEP, per se.

Getting back to the Black Bomber...he can't understand why this doesn't faze the "girly-bot" as he calls him, and decides to find a better subject. In utter frustration he semi-kidnaps Roll and asks her why he can't experience sleep...Roll, instead of being outright cruel and telling him he can't sleep because HE IS A FRIGGIN' WILY-BOT, informs him that he needs to "feel human first".

And that's what gets Bass stumped...natch.

So what's Roll's side in this odd relationship? She wonders how a robot, even one built by Wily (I think...), could be so arrogant and cold. So, as Bass observes her, she observes him, in hopes that she might understand why he's so fucked up. And Roll starts disliking Wily even more, for not allowing Bass to develop true emotion (at least, that's what she believes).

There IS a tiny bit of affection between these two, though...but they remain distant, because it would be association with the enemy. Bad stuff, there.

Yeah, this is another symbolic piccie. Bass is supposed to be in downtime, something he loathes. Roll is uncertain what to do--she could easily kill him now, but doesn't. Neither has noticed (or wanted to notice) that they have a bond, but it's this bond that gives Bass incentive NOT to kill Megaman. (He still refers to Rush as a "circus toy", though.)

Ehh...that's what I get for trying to sound smart.

By the way, the lyrics are from a band that I like called Hole. Yes, Hole as in Courtney Love. My dad doesn't like it when Love goes into "screech mode". I enjoy her music regardless. This particular song is "Doll Parts", and kinda fits Bass and Roll. After all, does Bass not think of himself as God's gift to women? Pffft...
