Recall ol' Solaris and how Elise blew him up like a birthday candle? The JA version of him, wanting to escape death took what little of his soul to Kronika. Kronika, being all about balancing evil and good, took his dying soul, trapped it in a book & left it in the care of those that sought power at any price. There, he soaked up knowledge like a sponge, event Illy gaining a corporal form he can use to interact with the world again. From there he was able to do havoc but his time as a book changed him so much he wasn't Solaris anymore. He was mature, sophisticated, gentlemanly if you may.

Retiring from on the field work he used his funds to create the Black Hat Organization, allowing evil to thrive in the universe better than if he wasn't there. His secret known only to him, he has to rest in the Grimoire to refuel his power, but one day he seeks to take out the beings that costed him his one and only shot at sure victory...Sonic and Princess Elise. Oh, he cannot wait for that day to come at long last
