Name: Tomoe Hotaru
AKA: Sailor Saturn, Mistress 9, Messiah of Silence
Series: Sailor Moon

I am really proud of this one! I had to redo it when I realised that I lost #3 as well as #2 with the death of my hard drive. I also realised how much I miss my mac, because photoshop is so much better to use in mac... so much better!

Why she's here: Hotaru always appealed to me, since she is a dark character. She is an incredibly tragic character, and a very powerful one. In the manga, especially so. She nearly died in an accident, and her father did die. His body was taken over and he took Hotaru and turned her into a cyborg. She was then experimented on so that she could be turned into the Messiah of Silence, Mistress 9. Of course Hotaru's own willpower awakened and within the chaos, Sailor Saturn was released.
I was disappointed with Hotaru in the anime after reading the manga. Sailor Saturn's awakening is much better in the manga, and it ties in better with the Silver Millennium. She is the "self destruct" button for the solar system, and can only be awakened by the Talismans held by Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. She represents death and rebirth, it is her power that destroyed the Silver Millennium, and caused everyone to be reborn.
Saturn gets more "airtime" in the manga, not only when she first awakens but later in the series as well. She gets transformations and different attacks. The story is also smoother, because she is raised by the outer senshi, which rids the issue of trying to explain to poor professor Tomoe why his infant is suddenly a 10 year old. I REALLY REALLY hope that Sailor Moon Crystal covers the whole manga. Since it is covering the first 2 arcs, it gives me hope the other 3 will be covered too!
