I'm not aware of that particular custom on railways elsewhere during the steam age. That's one reason I love the uniqueness of Japanese railways, especially ekiben.

Love the claustrophobic feeling of the train in a cityscape. I bet the sound was superb, echoing back from the buildings!

This is very good. It has great lighting, its composition really fits, and the overall mood of it is sweet and also in a way neutral, it being a railway station. I really like it.
