picutre I made to test my new Kuretake gold watercolors. you can see my review here

Bristol paper is super smooth so it's perfect for sketches/linework, but it's the worst for wet media... paint/ink soak into it immediately so you can't work with wet-on-wet technique, you have lot of ugly layers instead... I painted layer over layer to get a solid black bacground but I ended with 50 shades of black.... and that paper has a super low saturation which means it can't take lot of paint. All colors were a bit flat and I coudn't make a good contrast...
uh... PRO TIP : choose your paper wisely.
anyway, the whole picture was made because I wanted to try my Kurotake gold watercolors. They're so great! they're transparent so it's good to make a color foundation first (here I simply colored whole tail with sandstone promarker). The glow is simply fabulous (but of course you can't see it on scan, you can see it better on a photo www.instagram.com/p/BP8LwktA63… ">here ) but it's hard to get a solid color with it, no matted how many layers I painted I still could see brush strokes. I mixed these gold watercolors with my Sennelier paints to get some dark brown/green for shading and painting scales. I also used some metalic acrylic paint. Basically I tried all my best to save this picture ; u ; because in the middle of my work it looked like a super crap. But at the end looks nice

medium used: bristol paper (never again for wet media!!), black indian ink, sennelier watercolors, kurotake gold watercolors, metalic acrylic paint, pentel brush pen, gel pens
