This image was done for thenintendogirlsclub 's Mahou Smash Shojo project, which allowed participants to draw female Nintendo characters as magical girls.  Having done two tributes with them already, it was natural for me to jump in here as well, though it was tricky for me to figure out where I'd fit in with all of this!

Either way, participants can pick whoever they want and design them a fighting heroine look while following further instructions on their journal:

Mahou Smash Shoujo Collab! Girls, transform, unite, go FOURTH!

It's that time again, everyone! We're having our fourth collaboration, in which we will be having Nintendo girls portrayed as magical girls, in a similar manner to Sailor Moon, Princess Tutu, Pretty Cure/Glitter Force, Cardcaptor Sakura, Madoka Magica, etc. So let's take some cuteness levels beyond J-pop and all.
EDIT: OK, I've been thinking: I've said OCs are not allowed, but I'm making ONE special exception: Bowsette.
Here are the rules (Subject to change):
Chose a Nintendo girl you can think of, who will then be added to the list.
If you want, a male character (PLEASE specify when joining the event) from the same franchise and wearing a magical boy uniform (ex: https://www.google.com/search?q=magical+boy&safe=active&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj714XfssfdAhVml1QKHZLgA60Q_AUIDigB&biw=1280&bih=800 ) may accompany a female.

Because I saw 'Smash' in the name, I felt as if the best way to jump in was to do something quirky with one of the few females that is a Super Smash Bros series female character.  I wanted to have fun with a character as well, which is why I opted for the female Wii Fit trainer - not really a 'game', but a nice app that Nintendo developed for the Wii and aimed towards the player's real-life health through a selection of activities for yoga, aerobics, strength training and maintaining balance.  Having a character from that game represent it in Smash on the 3DS and Wii U showed that Nintendo cared a lot about its history and has no boundaries to what franchises it would explore!  (But seriously Nintendo, we still need ARMS rep yet...)

As for my feelings towards magical girls, I just see it as a way-too-cute set of superhero tropes, which is something that I was pretty indifferent on to begin with - and I also found it really hard to find inspiration on how to design something that isn't horribly clichéd.  So instead I decided to take it in another direction and design an outfit that incorporates way too many references to her home game!  Look - she's performing the Warrior yoga pose; we got the Wii Balance Board hairclip; there's meant to be four 'hooped' straps around her to signify the hula hoop mini-game and you can only spin 4 hoops at a time; the cloak is basically her towel after doing yoga or strength training... and those are not only the tip of the iceberg but also the really obvious ones!  Nevertheless, once I got my research set up, it all just flowed to me so naturally and I'm really happy with how it turned out.

This image got an Inktober twist on Friday as part of my 365 sketch challenge for 2018 .

Wii Fit is a piece of not-quite-game software created by the guys at Nintendo.  I drew this!
