For this one I was mainly trying to get at the problem of why the level of apprehension there is around Left-Wing gun ownership and Minority Self Defense exists.

It's that old Spinozist problem of why mass groups deliberately act against their own self-interest. The theory I'd reached is that it arises from the Liberal desire to appear "civilized" in contrast to the Far Right. "They go low we go high", and all. Of course honor and lawfulness don't stop bullets, and so this mindset has only become more problematic with time, hence the very real danger of political violence expressed in this comic.

I made sure that this library was a chain library like the Malatestiana, meaning that the books are all physically locked to the shelves with chains to prevent someone from stealing them. This was very common in the Middle Ages, but Chain Library systems gradually fell out of use as printing made books less expensive to produce and maintain.

I did find a Barubara volume cover to reference for a miniature on page 9, and so I suppose this is fanart.
