One of my favorite macro subjects to shoot: snowflakes. While you do have to worry about them melting, at least you don't have to worry about them running away, unlike insects (unless it's windy)! I usually photograph these backlit on a pane of glass, but this year I may experiment a little. This image has been reversed, making the originally silhouetted snowflakes a more appealing white color. The white specks in this image that make the snowflakes look like they're floating through space are actually just smaller pieces of ice and dust that had also fallen on my glass sheet
