Hooray for negative space! I actually reduced the amount of it here before uploading.... originally I wanted the central color image to be in the exact center of a white void, with the black and white drawing filling only the lowest right-most quadrant. I decided that would work better on a wall or canvas than a computer screen, however.More attempts to strip some of that "cool" shellack that's accumulated around Scratch off. I came up with this idea quite some time ago and didn't feel like drawing it until last night. I thought it would be fun to see Tavi as the strong partner and Vinyl as a comparative lightweight. I think it makes her cute, which I don't usually find the character to be.
Before you ask, by the way, Tavi is restringing her cello there in the background. How she does this as an earth pony is as much of a mystery as how she plays the cello in the first place. I'm pleased with the effect of using only greyscale in that bottom frame.

Did you intentionally leave the second part black and white so you didn't have to worry about Vinyl's eye color?

I think the coloring should have been switched; the B&W would represent the foggy memories. More ever, my eye is already being drawn to the morning scene since there's more detail, more assets, and dialogue. The beholder is confused as to where they should be looking.

Possibly, but I chose to put the larger image in color because it represents where the emotional emphasis is supposed to be. That's why the image is centered in color in lots of white space and the morning after is in greyscale in the corner. I don't mind that some confusion results in the overall composition; it's not up to me to choose where the spectator looks. Since both events are related but distinct, allowing a certain margin of interpretation isn't a bad thing.

My favorite part of this picture has to be the bed. That blanket's wrinkles look perfect, and those pillows, I'm not even sure what to say! It's a pleasure to see such a well executed drawing.

Now the real question is whether Octavia is miffed because she had to carry the comatose Vinyl home by herself and without any kind of magical assistance, or because nothing else happened that night until the DJ woke up with a hangover from Tartarus. If the latter case, I think Tavi might've restrung that cello several times over the course of the night and morning, and it's still not hitting the right notes.
