And here we are on the 31st of December 2020. And what better way to round out Hindsight in 2020 than this. I thought about what I was going to do, and there were a few other ideas I didn't get a chance to do which I may do later. but I thought it'd be fitting to draw something I haven't really tried much to draw in over a decade. Especially a character who was the namesake of my old username, Xaigatomon. I even decided at the end to have my current signature glitching into the old one it was inspired by.

I used to be infatuated with Gatomon as a kid. There was just something about her that I fell in love with when I was a little itty bitty Xai, and she and Kari became my favourite duo in Digimon.
I remember I'd used to play little pretend games in my room and at the very beginning I'd want Gatomon to be my digimon, but as soon as I started imagining the other characters for me to hang out, I realised that wouldn't work. (Even though I'm pretty sure it's canonical you can have more than one of a certain kind of digimon in the world? It's been a while.) And I remember having a picture on my wall with both Gatomon and Blackgatomon (which I had cropped to just have Gatomon and forgotten about the full version), and I remember looking at it and seeing Blackatomon's ear and tail poking out and being like "What's that? That's right! There's another one!"
And ended up having a roleplay account on Bebo as Blackgatomon maybe a year or so later haha
So I had to make a blackgatomon version too.
If you're wondering, since the Gatomon version has the crest of light in the background, what the crest here is, it's from when I had that little digimon roleplay group I mentioned, my friend and I decided that our digi destined crest was the Crest of Destiny. So I decided to draw that X3

In my mind, though I've reinterpreted the pose a little, this is a spiritual successor to a 2008 picture

Though I also like looking at other old ones too, such as the first one I ever drew, and almost the oldest thing in my gallery, (gatomon ) Which is from early 2007

I am sure I've tried to draw a picture of gatomon semi-recently, though I don't really remember where I put the sketch, I'll have to find it. But ever since these old drawings, and just being too young as an artist to understand why I can't figure out or interpret how to draw what I am trying to correctly, I just didn't really have the confidence to try to draw her again. Like I said, I did try at some point last year I think? but I never finished it. and for hindsight in 2020 I decided I'd finish it off with drawing a character I haven't attempted much since a decade ago and one who meant so much to me growing up. It'd be a crime if I didn't pay homage to my earliest inspirations during this project.
And with that, the project comes to a close.
It's been awesome fun redrawing stuff, much more fun than I thought it'd be! And there's still more I wanted to get round to haha. Seeing this picture though, and having made it, I feel very accomplished. It's a very satisfying feeling to have made this and rounded out my art journey a bit.
