Description
1 - Rough sketch with block colours underneath.

2 - Blocked out a background, changed the colour of the wings to fit in more.

3 - Adding smoke in the distance and a bright colour for lava. Toying with embers on a top layer to give an idea of what the finished image will use. I hide these when painting further.

4 - Changed both wings so that they curve around, evening out the composition a little, and bringing the focus back to the centre. Started to detail using a slightly textured brush for more interest.

5 - Trying to plan out lighting here. Gave myself some complexity's to sort out with this composition, having the ring of fire around the neck and within the mouth, alongside the bright background. Need to really plan out which bits would be in shadow.

6 - Carried on refining the detail. Really happy with how the arm, shoulder and wing joint came out!

7 - Further detail and lighting adjustments. Realised the wing closest is rounded, so therefore the light from the fire should be hitting the inner membrane. Had fun detailing the toes!

8 - This was mainly background refining, which I left quite late. Background is very lively so trying to keep the dragon from blending in too much.

9 - Overall colour adjustments and highlighting. I felt the piece was overwhelmingly too warm, so boosted the greys, almost using blue tinges in some of the shadows. Probably went a bit too mad with the highlighting. There are apsects from the previous step I prefer in this. If I re-looked at this, I would go about trying to merge the last two steps.
