Royraq - Lord of Fire

This is the first dragon illustration I've done for a while now whereby the initial design and colour scheme pretty much stayed the same throughout the process, other than the wing membrane, which was initially black but I think red stood out far more.

I really enjoyed focusing a lot on the muscles, and I'm super happy with how the legs turned out. The whole piece just came together really well from the start, and I really loved painting the background scene. I tried to really stay away from blues as they tend to be a crutch, but tweaking the colour levels at the end they showed up with the grey. And then I had to add a tinge to the back of the wings to really add more to the lighting... but not much!! Definitely a triumph in my quest for lack of blue!

This will be the last fire themed concept for a while now. Looks like we're moving onto 'darker' things...
