Description For as long as they can remember, the people of Da'Loya have lived in the shadow of the Ancients. The Gods of old cast their light upon the world, and the Old Ones were born of the shadows below. A scar marks the face of the world, the Chasm of the Deep, a reminder of the cataclysmic war between the Gods and Ancients. It forever links the world to the dark Abyss. The Gods have since abandoned Da'Loya, or perhaps they perished in that conflict. The remaining Ancients slumber beneath Seal of the Abyss. Their children, the daemons, spread a dark influence and corruption throughout the world. They await the Awakening, that day when unspeakable horrors will rise once more to finally snuff out the light.

Like a drowning man who clutches onto the wreckage of his ship in stormy seas, the people of Da'Loya cling desperately to hope. Though sunlight swiftly fades, and the Blight spreads across the world like an infection, the people protect the last dying embers of the Living Flame. Within massive megacities, the last remnants of civilization bitterly fight for survival against the mutants, monsters, and demons. The fading light may keep them safe, but it only delays the inevitable. One day all too soon, the Ancients will rise...

This piece was created in Procreate using an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. It presents original characters, creatures, and the world of In the Shadow of the Ancients. ItSotA is a comic project that I am working on with my husband, based on a tabletop roleplaying game campaign we ran over the course of years. It was a multifaceted adventure, that spanned multiple groups and branching storylines, and utilized Dungeons & Dragons, Dungeon World, Torchbearer, and Pathfinder.
