“Ok, easy now! That’s it!” Charles Hillcrest huffed, easing a large piece of sheetrock down, while Amanda held the other end. Moving slowly, they walked it over and set it down near the stairs. Erica and Molly picked it up and began to carefully maneuver it up the stairs.

A shriek filled the air, and the sheet rock slipped down the stairs. It caught on a lower step and swung up, before slamming down into the wall opposite the stairs. With a loud thud, it broke through the wall, crumbling into dust.

“Are you girls alright? Erica?! Molly?!” Amanda cried, rushing to the stairs.

“W-We’re alright! Molly scraped her shin. I guess my grip wasn’t as good as I thought.” Erica said, poking her head back down. She continued all the way down to see if how much damage had been done. She pulled the sheet rock back and observed the crack in the wall. She frowned and turned to where her parents were talking with Molly. “Is there a flashlight down here?” Her father walked over with on as her mother took a look at Molly’s shin.

“Find something?” Charles asked.

Erica took the flashlight and shone it into the crack. “Yeah, it’s hollow right here, and I thought I…saw…something…” Her voice trailed off and sat back. “There’s a…door.”

Her father frowned and took the flashlight from her. “There’s a what…?” He sat back as well, his frown even deeper. Telling Erica to step back, he placed his hands in the crack and began to pull. With a loud THUD the piece of wall popped out of place. Where it had been there was a door. It was very old looking, made from heavy mahogany. Strange designs and swirls were carved all across the door’s surface.

Charles stepped up to it and grasped the door knob. “Well, it’s locked.” He peered at the keyhole. “No telling where the key is now.”

He turned and began walking up the stairs. Erica turned to follow him but paused. For one brief moment, she thought she heard something. As she began to climb the stairs, she swore she heard the soft rustling of pages.
