Description Okay, this wasn't originally Snape, but for anybody who's read the 5th HP, they'll know what scene inspired it. It took me all Saturday... colored pencil, mech. pencil and a little ink. I made it for the DSG "Wizard apprentice".

Could you take that out? This is like... geez, what... 8 years old? 9? I don't even remember... but it's embarassing.

I cannot, it's impossible to edit even a word or change of place the features - which is irritating to me as well. But really, you should not be ashamed of it: the depiction of Snape is excellent in my opinion. Maybe others don't want to see him as the bookworm, nerd and outcast he was as a teen but I do, and the rendition of Snape doesn't imply that your work is wrong. I really like it. And you're actually very talented.

Thank you. Even though I hate how crappy it looks now I still believe in the image behind it of him being antisocial, angry and unattractive (to most) as a teenager. I haven't added anything here for a long time, though. I am now a professional concept artist at Gas Powered Games, and am also making an indie game with friends on the side... so if you wanna see my more recent work, it would be here: www.poundpixelgames.com and here: www.sarahmarkleyart.com though my personal portfolio is fairly out of date. The concept artwork at pound pixel is mine, environment/3d work so far is other peoples'.

Hello you !!!!

you know, I don't forget you - but I was truly really busy. I'll come back to my 'WIP detail' young Snape later, when I'll have more time. I'm still eager for your help - and I have the same kind of problem with the brushes I used for my last pic, indeed (too soft really!)

well, I'm here because I have featured this pic again ---> : [link]
'wanted to inform you

Thanks! It's great to hear from ya!

Unfortunately, that picture is SUPER SUPER old... probably like, 5 or 6 years old. I've done much better since then.. there's one called "Portrait of severus Snape" that is more recent.

About the soft brushes, it's so easy to do that with photoshop. Riding the line between too soft and too sharp is tough! That's why I like Painter so much... it's very blendable without being fuzzy.

Hope you had a good New Year!

I should get Painter, then... I never tried anything but PS...And these brushes are really frustrating indeed. Some of my faces are too opaque, with the wet/oil brushes - when the others are blurred because of the soft tools. And tell me : if I have my pic already made in PS, meaning : too fuzzy, can I improve it in Painter with a tool/filter or something ?

I know your 'ortrait of Severus Snape' , of course !!! I just personally so love this teen Snape, because he's the young nervous, odd and compulsive boy we can imagine in him. I mean, for me, in this pic, there are the good colors, the right imaginary (wizards and co), and there is also this personal behavior he has in the books - you know - a little bit weird. I like it !!!!

Yeah, if you have an opportunity to try Painter, I highly reccomend it. Oftentimes, Wacom tablets come with "procreate painter", which is a really amputated version, but it gives you a feel of how the brushes handle. My favorite is the "tinted round", which is a really basic round brush that just feels so creamy and nice when you paint with it.

Thanks!

Hoo boy, this is an OLD piece, though... I have a more recent one, "Rick as Snape", just so you know... think it's better.

I saw it. Good piece too. I chose only the 'teen Snapes' for these features and your older work shows him at Hogwarts - it was perfect in my mind.

*in an annoying sing-song voice* I found teh teenage Snaaa-ape! I found teh teenage Snaaaa-ape!
And I'm wicked impressed. Those must be soft colored pencils to make that sort of texture, and it works so fabulously with the drawing too. It's awesome! I love the whole feel (reminds me of those Medieval drawings, you know, of all those saints bent over their gospel books scrawling with their little quills and such - how fitting!) And perfect for the "Wizard's Apprentice!" Awesome work, as always.

Do more with colored pencils! You are so good with them!!

Thanks a lot! I did this drawing before I got my Prismacolors, though I think the ones I used still had a high wax content... but man, you gotta press HARD sometimes.

PS: Maybe Snape looks older cause he's not especially cute... Besides, he could be an... older teenager. I would think he'd be about 16?

OMG I love it! Fab job coloring it too by the way! *huggles the Snape, coughs and inches away* Ahem, yes...no more fangirlisms. Anyways, very good composition!

Again a great one^^!
I love the shadings here and you did a great job on that light ball. Did you use rubber to have this nice effect?
I know a little about Sev, because this is Mizukis favourite character from 'Harry Potter', but I haven't read the books by myself...

firesprite In reply to riftryu [2003-11-16 23:03:51 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I forgot to answer your question about the ball. I just used colored pencils with a high wax content, and used my white colored pencil to layer over a slightly thinner layer of color underneath. I used my eraser just a little bit also.

Thanks! Snape's not my favorite character, but he's getting up there. I would recommend the books quite a bit... very fun to read, though I know a lot of people are reluctant to because of all the HP hype. If you can get past that, you'd probably enjoy them a lot.
