Description Tbh it really pisses me off when someone walks into petsmart or something, sees an animal they think is cute and takes it home without any sort of research. They often have no idea what they're getting themselves into.

I've heard so many stories of pets that were bought on impulse that were either
-really aggressive toward the owner
-dead within a few months.
Honestly, the worst is when the person doesn't do any research beforehand and doesn't do any research after getting the animal either. They then complain that the animal was difficult to take care of.

Many of the "cool, exotic pets" that are flying around the market such as sugar gliders and chinchillas are extremely high maintenance and can live for a very long time (up to 30 years). They can also be very expensive; you might find yourself spending thousands of dollars a month on your new companion. Not something you want to purchase just to impress your friends. You will be in fluffy hell.

I've heard of many animals that have died simply because their owner didn't know what they were doing.
Do not impulse buy any sort of animal. Not even a fish.

Something I want to throw in here: If you are a first-time bird owner, do not go out and get a huge macaw. Start with something small, like a finch or budgie.

Also: Please don't keep your betta fish in one of those tiny square tanks. Imagine living the rest of your life in an area the size of a small bathroom.

Omg this is so true. I don't know how many times I have gone to get my betas some supplies (and end up rescuing some poor fish) and seen a parent buy their little kid a beta and the tiny tank. They don't know any better, but the store staff never tells them!! They're such awful conditions for the little guys too.

This is a good message. If only more people took heed.
