Description My 'ultimate' Dalek is now effectively done, though there are more automation I could do to it. It seems that everyone that has done Dalek models has made one of their own 'unique' design, so this one's mine. This one is meant to be a hybrid, incorporating aspects from all the assorted styles of Dalek over the years, and (almost) fully articulated for animation purposes. Which I will get around to eventually.

I started from the 'New Series' Dalek from the episode of the same name, simply because that one already incorporated a lot of features from previous incarnations so there's less to do. I'm basically just adding bits on that I felt the modern one missed, and incorporating elements from later props as desired, as well as moving the colour scheme to an older style that I preferred (nothing against the bronze ones, but I like the more militaristic battleship gray drones). I've included parts from original design plans, Dead Planet (Mark 1), Dalek Invasion of Earth (Mark 2), Space Museum (modified Mark 1), Dr. Who and the Daleks feature film (Film), The Chase (Mark 3), Power of the Daleks (modified Mark 3), Day of the Daleks (Goons), Doctor Who and the Daleks Omnibus, Doctor Who and the Daleks in the Seven Keys to Doomsday (Stage Props), Revelation of the Daleks (Necros), Remembrance of the Daleks (Imperial), Dalek (New Series), Dalek Masterplan (Stage Props), Daleks in Manhattan (Specialist), Victory of the Daleks (New Paradigm), and Magician's Apprentice.

All the opening rods and pistons for the skirt, shoulders, and neck, are built to 'work', without metal needing to stretch, bend, or pass through other objects, which made it necessary to add mid-rods as extensions and completely re-think the ones for the shoulders. Unfortunately, I'm still left with some clipping in the skirt panels themselves as they open. I haven't figured out how to fix that. Also, flexible pipes have been added to carry power to the various moving/lit parts.

A very interesting (and very complex) design, pal.

It's one of the principles I wanted to follow, for the complexity being in the details and leaving the overall 'silhouette' to be effectively unchanged. Most of the real work was in making some kind of cohesive sense of the various internals we've seen over the years. And honestly I don't think I succeeded, as in the old series they had regular-sized people getting in and out of the stupid things (Ian, the Doctor himself, etc.) with only having to scoop out the mutant. That's not going to happen with this version. The only way you're going to fit a person in there is with a cutting torch.
