Description

A true clash of Rimarian titans - drakoon and falcolfs are Rimer’s two most dangerous and intelligent species.* In a confrontation between the two, it might be hard to pick a winner. The falcolf has venom which is almost immediately lethal, however, that venom is only at his disposal when he’s spooked. Besides that venom, he’s got speed, bite force and a lot more torque than even the biggest dog. He also usually travels in packs - but so does the drakoon, and he can transform himself to use hands, which the falcolf cannot. He doesn’t naturally have venom like the falcolf does but with hands comes ingenuity and with his larger size, he’s got just as much power - or more - than your average horse. He also has a tail which is covered in horrifying foot long spines and a far greater bite force. Even more outstanding, drakoon possess the second best nose on Rimer - a nose which not even the best tracking dog, hynorse or falcolf could ever hope to compete with, making it pretty much impossible to hide from a drakoon unless you are one yourself. His claws are also sharper and his hands give him the ability to fully utilize his great mental ingenuity. Still - that venom - absolutely lethal to a human within a minute - cannot be argued with. Neither can the falcolf’s ability to breathe underwater.

Despite that venom, my money’s on the drakoon. He would win the confrontation because the falcolf is only venomous if he thinks his life is endangered - the drakoon is dangerous constantly and unlike the fairly peaceful if territorial falcolf, which usually only kills for food, the drakoon is happy to kill at any time. The drakoon can also kill from a distance using darts or arrows - the falcolf can’t. With its tail and wings, it also has a greater reach of attack.

In reality, falcolfs and drakoon almost never meet and when they do, they take care to avoid each other like the plague. When Ki goes into falcolf populated areas in EB, he never sees any - because while he might not be aware of his species identity, the falcolfs are. King predators don’t mess with king predators, plain and simple! (Keel is even instructed to shoot any falcolfs that he meets rather than allow them to get anywhere close enough to bite him.)

In truth, both drakoon and falcolfs would quail and run at the sight of a wind drake - no winged creature wants to mess with one of those.

Such a relief to draw a drakoon again! (I haven't in a while.) I might just draw some more of them tomorrow for Sketch of the Day (rosannapbrost.tumblr.com/ ), I’ve missed the silly creatures.

*Drakoon are rated as Rimer's most intelligent in a list which does include humans - we're about halfway down the list. Lots of things - including falcolfs - possess a much higher IQ than humans. Falcolfs are only limited by their distinct lack of hands - the reason why drakoon don't build space ships and junk is because they have no reason to - and they're rather distracted by the handicap of some hecka strong instincts which makes them more inclined to kill each other than create fantastic works, yet historically they have created wonders which a human probably couldn't figure out without many years of muddling. They've also crossed interstellar distances without spacecraft of any kind.
