Eel mermaids are a rare sight due to their timid and silent nature. They're born in the sea and travel through rivers into fresh inland waters. No youngling has never been seen which is why in old folktales the eelmaids are told to be born from maidens who were drowned in the dark waters and stayed to warn others of such faith. The tales are of course all false, for was there to be drowning in an eelmaid's waters, they would affoid the soul until they're certainly dead before consuming them.
