Description There are things here I love and hate. I love the giant bird's wings. I hate the bird's neck--is it a giant owl, or a giant hawk that ran into a giant window? It bothers me. I love the background, how the trees and landscape recede into the distance. I hate the fact that Mr. Archer on the bird's back is a very poor shot with a bow--certainly not good enough with it to risk kneeling on the back of the flying bird to get a single arrow off... Maybe there's another pursuing dragonling off-picture to the right... Yeah. Yeah. That's the ticket...

Enjoy! --Faile35

Well, if worse comes to worse, dragons are usually quick but cumbersome in a turn when in the air due to their massive weight. Dodge much?

A fantastic piece btw. With a ridiculous amount of detail.

Usually, in anything I've seen, dragons move up and down while flying. Maybe he's waiting for the dragon to reach the top of it's flight movement before he shoots it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

faile35 In reply to Azshanara [2006-07-14 00:04:40 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. That works. If it works for you, it works for me. Maybe the whole sky to the right (off-page) is filled with the flying devils--he's just picking another target. The original image (the one that popped into my head) had the guy aiming at one of the two dragons in the background, and so when I started drawing it, and he ended up aiming God-knows-where, I was disappointed. I'm glad you like it, though. --Faile35

I just realised, you're a real perfectionist. Owls give me the creeps, but you have captured this one so lovingly that I cannot fail to love it too. And I thought all owls of that type have that kinda neck. I feel a faving coming on

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

faile35 In reply to DaisyBurrows [2006-06-02 13:51:27 +0000 UTC]

A perfectionist?! I've been accused of that heinous outlook before. I'd say that it's fairly close to accurate, although I know that I cut corners and "accept less" on many occasions. This one is particularly bothersome, however, because my vision for it was an eagle or hawk, not an owl. I agree with you that it works well as an owl, but something inside me always feels betrayed at that thought, saying, "I'm an EAGLE, dammit!"

In any case, thank you for the encouragement, and the favorite! I'm really glad you like it. --Faile35

DaisyBurrows In reply to faile35 [2006-06-02 15:02:41 +0000 UTC]

There's nothing wrong with being a perfectionist, so long as you know what's a reasonable expectation and what isn't. So speaks someone who has spent half an hour adding and then removing a word because it's not exactly the word she wants but she doesn't know another.
And I'm easily influenced by what people say about stuff, so I thought owl cos you said owl first. I'm sure if you said it looked like a banana I'd agreen that it is a little curvy.
I also forget what eagles look like, getting them confused with vultures for some reason.

faile35 In reply to DaisyBurrows [2006-06-02 21:08:05 +0000 UTC]

"You owe me a milllion dollars." Did that influence you?

Eagles look like bigger, thicker versions of hawks. I don't mind being a perfectionist, either. Usually when people apply that term to someone, it's my experience that they are intending to be a little negative about it. I didn't take your comment that way, though. It's all good. I'm glad you like the picture as an owl. --Faile35
