Description "The world will look up and shout 'Save us!', and I'll look down whisper, 'No.'"

Rorschach, the anti-hero of Alan Moore's Watchmen. Rorschach is a superhero of sorts; a schizophrenic, who is no longer able to distinguish between his real identity and his alter-ego, who has worn his mask for so long that he has forgotten who he was underneath. Rorschach lives in a world of black and white, where good and evil are clearly defined, where justice is absolute, and where the end never justifies the means.

I'm really looking forward to the Watchmen film that's currently under production. Hopefully this one lives up to Alan Moore's standards.

Anyways, I started off trying to do this digitally, but then I realized that with my current skill at digital painting I could never properly create the kind of atmosphere that I can with shading, so I decided to draw it using traditional media i.e. good ol' pencil and eraser. Unfortunately, the scanner removed a lot of the expression that I tried to create with shading, and so the final result didn't quite live up to my expectations. The drawing looks better in real life. If you know me in real life, just ask and I'll show you. 'Til then, cheerios.

Pleasant dreams.

It's very good. Graphic novel, voted by National Geographic as one of the top 150 best English works of literature of all time. Not for the light-hearted, though.

Haha, I guess not really... But I have a horrible habit of putting any pencil/charcoal work in that folder

I dunno, thick shading requires a fair amount of effort, and this is quite good by my standards.

Oh it is. It's a complete work, I just put it in that folder for neatness. I should probably rename that folder traditional pencil work hmm....

Then again, the graphic novel depicts him frequently lifting the lower half of his mask for various purposes.

I'm glad you did just go with traditional means, the shading on this picture is extremely well done. Nice work and all that.

Hm. I'm always impressed by shading when it's done well, since it's something that's never come naturally to me.
