Description This is a puppet I had sculpted for an episode of the X files. In my defense the time frame the puppet was needed was insane. This was a one day sculpture because they needed it in on set in 3 days. However it did end up being a really fun episode.

Mulder and Scully are sent to investigate a series of killings at a circus sideshow in the town of Gibsonton, Florida. During their investigation, Scully points out to Mulder that the both of them have been wrongly suspicious of many of the "circus freaks" in town simply because of their abnormalities. This creature ends up being Leonard, the underdeveloped fetus twin of Lanny, played by Vincent Schiavelli. Leonard is actually capable of exiting and then returning into Lanny's body. Lanny mournfully suggests that the motivation behind his brother's attacks is that he is seeking a new brother, by attempting to burrow into their side. Lanny later dies from an unrelated drinking problem which severely damaged his liver, and Scully says that his autopsy revealed many differences in the arrangement of his blood system, esophagus, etc. which were almost umbilical in nature.

Sorry about the bad photo...this is from a postcard I found in a bookstore.

You know, I always wondered who made all these monsters and such, since some of these seem really familiar to me and I've probably seen most them in those movies. Well, now I know, and I must say excellent work there man.

I thought this was a good and frightning episode back in the days when I saw it the first time. Thanks to your freak there Interested to see what you do next, since some of your sculptures are so disturbingly freakish. And I love disturbingly freakish things!

I'm particularly fond of that episode. Even if you're not pleased with the puppet, rest assured it was still effective! I gotta say, it's pretty cool to have found the sculptor of that on here.

I think it was because of how rushed it was that made me feel this way. I never had seen the show the x files, but years later I bought the tape to watch this particular episode. I thought it was really fun and actually the puppet was very appropriate for the odd tone of that episode. Great to know that it had an impact...that is the best compliment of all.

This is one of my all-time favorite episodes! This little critter made me jump back from the TV the first time I saw it. I was living alone at the time and I kept looking for movement under the table or at the window all the rest of that evening. Thanks for the awesome spook-out!

OOOHHH!!!! I'm a big fan of X Files and I really really really enjoyed this episode! I must tell you that your "cheesy Puppet" scared the hell out of me when I was a little girl and I think "Leonard" is a classic of the show!
It's an honor to be able to comment something about it to the one that create it! Thanks a lot for sharing it and for your wonderful work!!

This is a really great compliment...I did think this episode was fun and I could see it being creepy if I was younger! Thanks for writing me such a nice comment.

I LOVED that episode! And you might think it's cheesy, but that little thing scared the crap outta me!

(I'm resisting the urge right now to go all crazy because I found someone on dA who actually worked on the X-Files.)

Ha, I just watched that episode last night, it was a great one. Who would have suspected the conjoined twin?

That is truly fantastic, creepy as hell.

I was probably too young to watch the X-Files at the time. But I bought the first season a few weeks ago and now I'm hooked.

Plus, anything with Gillian Anderson in it is worth watching...

I remember seeing her come into the shop and everyone was bug eyes. I have not seen one other episode but I did like this one. It was one of the only silly ones but still done pretty well for TV.

Heh heh. Yea, I think Humbug was the first X-Files episode that was played for laughs.

And for a cheesy 90's television show, the production values were usually pretty good.

Anyways, i'm looking forward to seeing some more stuff from you. Keep it up.

Wow, that is really cool! The circus-episode is one of my favourite episodes of "X-files". The sculpure turned out really nice

EvanCampbell In reply to Vihma [2008-12-06 18:23:08 +0000 UTC]

Thanks...I am glad you think so. Probably helps that the episode is kind of freaky and silly so it is fitting.

Vihma In reply to EvanCampbell [2008-12-07 10:06:15 +0000 UTC]

I think, you are right. It is the mixture of freakiness and silliness, that makes the episode so charming. That was it, what I liked at the early X-files-seasons: On first look, the looked realistic, but they didn't take themself so serious.

But I would have never thought, that you had only one day to do sculpture of the "freak-twin".

It's good that i found you here. That way i can say : " Thanks for that amazing work" ^--^
Its not every day that one can thank the guys behind the scenes face to face (or screen to screen for that matter X3)

So, so gruesome Evan.
Simply remarkable you conjured something so articulate and memorable in that frame of time.
I think "Homonculus" is the actual name of the creature from folklore if Im correct.
