Description Ref sheet I created for Monday's Dusk. Just cuz' he's that cool. And I couldn't find any good pics of him on here that I particularly liked the design of. Solution: MAKE ONE UP!

I made this before I made the tegaki pic of him. It was a lot of fun and made me practice some more on details. And here you can clearly see the gaiters I put on him.

I also got to practice more on wing placement. I was rather glad that I was working on this picture back while I was taking ceramics a few months ago. So many art folks to talk to and get feedback on it. (And for several of my other pieces for that matter.) There wasn't much fixing the inked parts, but I still learned a good bit.

Anywho.
Character belongs to Garth Nix
Drawing belongs to me.

Glad you do!

Oh, that definitely makes me happy to hear. Mr. Nix's descriptions are so vague it can be difficult to imagine the characters sometimes!

Netol In reply to euclidstriangle [2010-03-22 02:16:33 +0000 UTC]

Yes, know exactly what you mean!
I tried a few times... I think my biggest problem was his hair was too long in mine...
and I wasn't too good with a top hat... which was weird seince I have a character that wears one all of the time.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

euclidstriangle In reply to Netol [2010-03-22 15:02:40 +0000 UTC]

Hats... I'm not so good at drawing hats yet. Thus far, in the little extra doodles I've done of Dusk, I've had him hold the hat, but he sure was not wearing it. lol. I'd imagine if the House's physics are anything akin to our physics, flying with that hat on might be a tad difficult.

Lolz
I bet.
Good idea on him holding it though.
Mine's a pain because of how top hats are longish...
*sighs*
but I'm getting better. I just drew one a little while ago!

Yeah, it makes it a bit difficult, really. Trying to come up with the characteristics enough to draw them when there's barely enough there to picture them... A bit of a flaw in the writing in that sense. I think I read through Monday and Tuesday three times to see if Dusk/Noon had a better description. lol.

Yeah... I got about halfway through book five before my collection started getting lost and stuff. D: It is my ambition to one day draw a bishie-Myrdraal! XD

Heck yeah! I can't even count how many times I've read those books. I am pretty much a loyal fantard of the Disreputable Dog and Mogget. I still freak myself out reading 'em at three in the morning!

Oh, believe me, it is...

No kidding! The first time I read Lirael, or at least the part where Sam and his school friends are under attack, it was about three in the morning. Needless to say, I didn't sleep at all that night.

euclidstriangle In reply to DeathofSues [2009-07-26 19:47:37 +0000 UTC]

You'll have to show me once you accomplish this feat.

I can imagine! Heck, the same happened with me when I got to the chapter about Shadar Logoth in WoT.... Dreams that night were... interesting to say the least. I always liked the bells in Abhorsen, though. Those seemed so cool and eerie at the same time...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DeathofSues In reply to euclidstriangle [2009-07-26 20:54:19 +0000 UTC]

Well, I've already started on it, but my scanner's been acting up lately, and I suck at drawing things straight into the chompie. I'll get it up as soon as possible, though!

Yeah... Shadar Logoth was actually *even worse* than the attacking zombie hordes in Lirael for me; I've always been much more afraid of walking into a dark, creepy building than any sort of undead horror, and I've always been really freaked out by 'if-you're-in-a-certain-place-at-a-certain-time-something-really-nasty-will-happen-to-you' stuff. So SL was like all my nightmares incarnate rolled into one.

I still loved it, though.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

euclidstriangle In reply to DeathofSues [2009-07-27 03:29:36 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I hate it when the scanner doesn't cooperate. So annoying.

Oh, heck, I thought it was going to be a nice quiet chapter, a respite from the trolloc hordes. You know, one where you get to know more about the party members? So I had my audiobook on, lights off, and then the boys went exploring and met Mordeth. My mind thought, "Ah, crap..."

So, curious, have you seen I Am Legend, then? They had a rather... creepy scene in that with a dark building.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DeathofSues In reply to euclidstriangle [2009-07-27 23:50:08 +0000 UTC]

Yeah... although, in retrospect, screaming with fury and beating it with the monitor may not have been the best idea.

I think that the two most nightmare-inducing things I've read in WOT are Shadar Logoth and anything to do with Machin Shin. -shudders-

Yep! Throughout that whole scene, I was pretty much just thinking 'oh god, he's going to find the dog's mutilated body, oh god, he's going to find the dog's mutilated body' over and over. It wasn't nearly as bad the second time, but I'm very, very, *very* glad I watched it with other people in the room the first time.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

euclidstriangle In reply to DeathofSues [2009-07-28 05:48:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeeeah, scanners don't like that too much sometimes. lol.

Machin Shin= creepiest voices in the wind ever.

Yeeeah, those were pretty much my thoughts when the dog ran into the building. Then there was the scene where the mannequin had moved.... I hate mannequins... Those mannequins did nothing for my distaste of them. lol.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DeathofSues In reply to euclidstriangle [2009-07-28 21:43:17 +0000 UTC]

I know! And it didn't even fix itself when I apologized to it and stuffed candy into all of its orifices. Nope, my scanner doesn't like me at all.

Seriously! Machin Shin deserves its own horror movie! I can just imagine it being outraged that it doesn't get enough screen time/doesn't get paid enough for said screen time, and going off to start a movie of its own about the evil soul-eating cloud that is born when a genetically engineered guy toots.

Yep. And it made it even worse later on; by the point you've been thinking, 'oh, he's the hero's dog, he'll make a miraculous comeback and survive.' And he doesn't.

I too was creeped out by the mannequins; at the part where the zombies left one of 'em outside, before I realized what was going on I was practically screaming my head off and formulating plans to get my mom to let me sleep in the living room.

But the mannequins *did* make my favorite scene in the movie possible ("Please just talk to me..."), so they're not all bad.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

euclidstriangle In reply to DeathofSues [2009-07-29 03:56:14 +0000 UTC]

Silly scanner!

lol. I think Machin Shin gets all the attention it needs. Any more and it would be sucking on the souls of the readers. D:

No, mannequins are evil. Period. There's an exhibit at a museum nearby with a few mannequins that really creep me out: an old timey Pharmacist (you turn the corner and BAM! he's right there, smiling at you in that fixed way), an old timey Dentist (complete with patient!), and the creepiest one of all: some Civil War soldiers amputating (a.k.a. sawing off) another soldier's foot. I HATE that part of the museum.

And the scene where the mannequin had moved creeped me out more than the building itself had.

I'm digging the suit, although apparently he can't put a belt through the loops; it's sagging below the waistline in the pants.

How come you don't draw David and co anymore? T-T

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

euclidstriangle In reply to VergessenHeld [2009-07-24 22:08:35 +0000 UTC]

That belt is for the scabbard at his side. Still working on getting that right. I rather enjoyed creating that suit for him, though. Looks more like he's ready for a dinner party than anything. Rather fits the upper-class Denizens the more I think about it. lol.

Well, it's not that I haven't thought about it. But there are many characters whom I've thought about drawing but can't figure out what to do draw of them when it comes to putting the pencil on paper. Rather frustrating, you know. Yoruichi, Sarah, and others... Quite frustrating. They're not dead in my head, though.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

VergessenHeld In reply to euclidstriangle [2009-07-29 05:20:17 +0000 UTC]

All the more reason it should be secured at his side. I've worn a replica sword on a loose belt and it was painful and annoying after a few hours. I can only imagine what a real sword would do to your leg or hips.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

euclidstriangle In reply to VergessenHeld [2009-07-29 06:47:40 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm... Like I said, still working on that detail. I think I've got a better belt set up on another character, but I'm not sure. Sword movies, here I come for research! Lord of the Rings sounds like a good start.
