What is with that green Hungarian hat ????, Transylvania is in Romania , believe me i am from Transylvania, and he was born in Transylvania but he was a lord of Valahia , a south part of Romania , when he was a kid , he was a slave in Turkey and he learn to be that cruel from turkish soldiers, and then he become the worst nightmare for Turkey because he used their own tactic of punishing people , Impaling , And he even used this cruel metode on Sultan's child (Sultan = King of Turkey )....He didn't have a thing with Hungary Or Austria ...With Transylvania and Hungary is a different story, Vlad had black-red clothes and the hat the same colors ...But in rest it's a nice work

Wow, thanks for the history refreshment, well actually the image was done a lot time ago and i remember mixing 2 hats of 2 images i found of him as i didnΒ΄t wanted to do him with the hat he always appear with. since finding images of Vlad was very limited in that time.
although i will really like to do this image again with the artistic knowledge i have now, can i ask you for help with some reference for the right tipe of hat and or some clothing from the propper age he lived in?
As for the red and black Colors... well itΒ΄s hard for me to picture someone to wear the same colors every day, and also i wanted to do something different from the tipical stamp you find on the internet about him, adn that went away from the typical "Vampire" Colors
Thanks for making me aware of the hat mistake though

I am really happy that you are interested in knowing more about his life , Here is a link , it is a Romanian movie about Vlad and his life , there is a problem it is in Romanian, and there is no subtitle ( [link] ) but you don't have to watch the movie, just to see some details about him or his life , how people were dress like , If you want to make more interesting maybe you can use some dark blue as a color or maybe mustard color with some dark red, green does not bothering me but in your work he look more as a Hungarian , and we Transylvanian people , we have a thing with Hungary , we really don't like them :-P the Magyars , You can use some things from Turkish hat , like a feather or something , because he was kidnapped by them so he learn some things from turkish soldiers
I will repeat myself ,you done an awesome job with your work , you are really talented

Vlad Dracula was no more cruel than all the other butcherous kings and religious churches of the time. He was a great and valiant man who defended his people in the best way he saw fit, and all through out his life He was betrayed and manipulated by the churches and kings that wanted to enslave his people. Every one he killed got exactally what they deserved. Vlad Tepes should be honored instead of spat upon.
Awesome pic too. One of the best ones I've seen in a while.

When I say spat on, I refer to the public's consistant portrayal as him as a demonic vampire. The Bram Stoker movies are fun, but they are fantasy, and posion the under appreciated true story of Vlad Tepes.

i'm reading that book right now, and i know which part you meant. i'm almost tempted to create my own rendition, after reading the description. i like how creepy you made the eyes.

guess I should read that book.
though I hate all the negative publicity put around Vlad Tepes.
Can't believe people know Romania (or Transilvania) for something as stupid as this

Yes that's true, but, in the book they don't put that much of a criminal, but a wise man.
and of course in Romania they think of him as a hero, i think

yeah, something like that.
I can't argue with the fact that he was cruel, but then again ... how many things were going on in all Europe at that time that were normal then, but considered cruel now?
He was the only one that worried about the safety of people. it was probably the only period of time when there were almost no thieves. A legend says that once a foreigner merchandiser came to his country. He was afraid to let all his stuff just anywhere, so he went to Vlad and asked to put his best guards to take care of his treasures. However, Vlad Tepes told him to put everything on the darkest street and let it there unguarded. It would have been considered and offense not to do as he has been told, so the merchandiser, very much afraid, did just that. The next day everything was in its place. Not sure if this is true, but I guess it could be.

Exactly, and there were many other cruel people out there, they just needed someonet to take the stage while they used their politics in the back, so they used him

Woah man! That really makes you know that that was the guy who impaled his own people on poles. And burned beggers. And in his after life, sucked blood.
Keep up the good work!

Yeah, even though I'm not a fan of this type of art, i would say: great initiative, i have also planned to make a Dracula-portrait like this, in live size. But this is why i comment: weren't there one white, and one brown feather?
^^

Esteban84 In reply to Combarus [2007-03-10 23:33:05 +0000 UTC]
not that i remember.... in the book and in the original portrait (the one where he's dressed in Red and brown), there's a brown and white feather, but just one

Combarus In reply to Esteban84 [2007-03-12 16:17:43 +0000 UTC]
Yes, in the red-brown portrait it is just one, but I think that in [the good-guy-turks]' portrait there is two... not that it is very important ^^
