Description I did this a few days ago, since my muse was smacking me to draw out designs for the major characters of this story. I had no clue why, since, at the time, I hadn’t really planned on doing anything with them, but my muse was insistent. Who am I to argue with it? Better this than nothing at all.

And it’s like ‘Let’s find the odd one out!’ looking at this, since they’re all vampires, save for the one.

Name: (physical age/actual age)

Ryan Hutchinson: (16/16) Told from her point of view. Ryan’s just a normal introverted teenaged girl, trying to get by in the world, and seeking attention from her negligent family. Only one she could trust happens to be ‘dead’ now, though.

Benjamin Cartwright: (17/229) The love interest, of course. Benjamin’s trying to be normal, and is the most normal of his ‘family’. He’s sarcastic and pessimistic, but overall a good guy.

Charlotte North (Hutchinson): (16/16) Ryan’s twin sister. Charlotte is an extrovert, and one of the most popular girls at school. She’s seen as a bit shallow in life, but acts much like Ryan in death.

Caroline North (Holmes): (18/230) Thomas’ ‘fiancée’. Caroline is the sort of girl everyone envies; boys want to date her and girls want to be her. While she ignores most of the humans around her, she takes to Ryan fairly quickly, and really enjoys her company.

Thomas Cartwright: (20/232) Benjamin’s older brother. Thomas is considered a ‘bad boy’, and is deemed the worst of the family. He’s just as well natured as his brother, though, and gets the biggest kick out of annoying Ryan.

Robert North: (25/335) The patron of the family. Robert, well, I haven’t figured out what he does just yet. But he’s a kind and gentle soul who likes nothing more to live as a normal person and in peace.

Estella North: (22/332) Robert’s wife. Estella is very much like her husband, kind and compassionate. She works as a doctor, mostly so she can declare Charlotte dead while still making her into a vampire.

Jessica Cartwright (Andersen): (18/107) Um…don’t have too much on her yet. She’s just really a filler character to add more to the family. I do know that Ryan sees her future in Jessica, since Jessica fell in love with a vampire herself, which is why she was turned.

Adrian North (Wood): (19/134) Same deal with Jessica. He’s the one she fell in love with. (They’re supposed to be sort of replacements for Lily and Jayson without actually using that, if that helps any…although their history is totally different).

The general idea behind these vampires is that they’re more like walking corpses than anything else. I know that sounds a bit gross, but yeah. They look normal enough to pass as humans (and they can be out in the sunlight, since there’s not really anything supernatural about them; it’d just be like taking a corpse outside). The shadows under their eyes are due to lack of sleep, since vampires don’t have to sleep nearly as often as humans do. (Charlotte’s are lighter because she’s newly turned, and Benjamin’s are darker because he hasn’t slept in several years, maybe decades. They can still function without sleep, mind).

These vampires do have fangs, but they only extend out when feeding. And, of course, this group only drinks animal blood. That’s one reason for Charlotte’s odd eye color. Her eyes, at the moment, are red, and she’s wearing blue contacts. They’re red because she’s newly turned, and, with the absence of human blood to her diet, her eyes will eventually return to normal. (I liked the idea ~callisto-chan had of them looking dead, but they’re eyes were very much alive.)

It’s fun to reuse characters, and then totally reinvent them. (I screwed up some numbers on the image, so, ignore them. )

(And Vampire Story is my other tentative title for this, although it’s more of a placeholder description than anything else.)

At least Ryan's in a corner of the sheet. If she were placed smack in the middle she'd probably stand out even more. All the designs are nice though; I'm a fan of Caroline's hair. I note all the vampire women seem to be wearing heavy lipstick, and I wonder if there's a reason for it?

About considering vampires walking corpses, it's eerie, but I had thought of the exact same thing. I had even started detailing a little list in my head as to what defined vampirism -- sort of my own take on it, since it seems fashionable nowadays to put your own spin on it. I'm surprised how some of your ideas match mine (walking corpses, less need or desire for sleep, etc.)

But to get back to the picture, all the designs are very nice. It'd be interesting to see whatever you come up with for this story.

If Ryan were in the center of the sheet, she'd have to be looking worried, surrounded by vampires like that. Yeah, I love Caroline's hair, which is, I believe, almost the same as her previous version, although a bit toned down. (I stole it for Adrianna, although without the pieces on her face...>.> ) As for the lipstick, that's actually just Charlotte and Caroline, who are more fashionable than the others. The other two have more natural shades, if you'll notice.

As for the walking corpses, well, the fact we had the same idea isn't eerie, since, after all, that's basically the definition of vampire. People add in the supernatural stuff, and make them see less so, but that's what they are. The not needing as much sleep is actually one way I'm trying to differentiate from Stephenie Meyer's vampires, and I'm making it a plot point. >.> Sort of. My general idea of vampires, now, is that they are just like us, although their natural abilities are enhanced (ie: faster, stranger, better sight, that sort of thing).

But yeah, I had fun trying to design these guys. I'm interested to see what I do as well. (I actually even have a place for an Anselme type character...as the villain, I'm sorry to say. ;_; )

Thanks!

Don't be sorry. Anselme (or an Anselme-esque character) would work well as a villain. Between the not taking care of himself until he nearly snaps and the vigilante justice he metes out (I think I wrote somewhere that he preys on lowlifes when he must feed on humans) he could be seen as a sufficient threat. I would be inclined to be sympathetic, but I could understand how Ryan and the Norths might not be so forgiving.

I should get to reading Twilight. My uncle bought me the book as a gift, thinking I might like it, and I haven't yet gotten around to really getting far into it. >.> Bad me.

Well, I wasn't really thinking of his actual character to be the villain. I had just been thinking, you know, that I had added a sort of Lily and Jayson in there, so why not an Anselme as well? And suddenly had this random idea of this hard French vampire who, I guess, wants Charlotte and Ryan for himself. I'm thinking now, of course, he wants them alive, since they are a rarity and all, but meh. I don't really see him as the sympathetic character Anselme is, but more...snapped. I think the only similarities between the two are they are French.

As for Twilight, well, I'm pretty sure it's not your cup of tea, but I may be wrong. There are several people who do hate it, as you may be able to see, but it just happens to be the sort of thing I go gaga over, and I'm not sure if our tastes in literature are the same, excepting HP. But hey, at least you'd know how I came up with all this.
