Description Finally, my first work after a rather long hiatus (more than six months without new personal art feels long even for my standards). I have to thank Rowye for kicking my a motivating me to get moving and do something useful with my new spare time. This might not be the most creative thing you've seen on this page today, but please cut me some slack and let me do some pretty stuff to help me get back into the game.

Woof! nice work, it's good to see your work again.

I'd suggest darkening the foremost leaves a little more on the top and bottom . Maybe remove the dark leaves on the right leading into the wolf. To me it's messing up the levels on the foreground, midground and background; it's not in essence framing the piece or the animals as the top and bottom leaves have. For the antlers some under lighting, they're usually quite polished so really crisp and sharp pink. Using the pink on the snake skin curving up rather than the cool light was a good choice. it's helped to separate it from the background and reinforce the owl as a secondary element. It makes sense that you haven't gone overboard with the owl lighting for the same reason. Yeshhhhhh! to the pink skulls in the ground, that read very nicely after a while and complemented the tail skull and body skull which reinforce each other in their direction. The leg skull I feel is too strong and read too soon, with it being in the opposite direction it reads oddly, you have a very subtle jaw bone on the leg so maybe just that.

Do I have to do star ratings.....Ignore the star rating,

I give you four puppies and a pink ice cream.

thanks a lot for this critique man, that was very helpful! Very in depth and with special focus on the composition - I love it lol. I could use critiques like that all the time. Thanks for your support!

I think you can tell by me favoriting this piece before critiquing it shows how much I like this. That wolf looks awesome, though I wonder why he has a skull on the side of his face even though the rest of his body is not skeletal. The detail of the line work, such as with the wolf's fur is amazing. I also love the colors and the darkness within the background of this piece. It just looks really amazing. So, overall, everything about this piece is just amazing to me, and I hope you keep up the good work.

It's been a long time indeed, and I think you came back stronger and better then ever, The lovely colors mix and fade so perfectly. I would say I would love to see it bigger, just to see the fine details. The minor details are flawless from the smoke to the particles in the grass area, from the snake and wolf. Simple yet strong and not afraid of color. A step in the right direction from an artist of his own skill sets, and own style.

So for the Critique,

Pros: Colors, Imagery, Vividness, Style, Message all very well and clearly putt. The owl with the smokey wings is a great touch to mix well with the wolf which has the same effect. The blending of the skulls is spot on, as far as blends and shades.

Cons: Bigger to see the more in depth details, perhaps more with the what I assume is the serpent in the background that is the only part I am unsure of. The skull in the belly was the only one that felt slightly rushed on the blends.

Over all I think again you nailed it and as far as critiques its meant to build and expand, which is why we ask for them right? Like other great artiest your work leaves me more questions on details I also would love to adapt to my own work. Keep it up and stay true to the work. Second to none.

Thank you so much for the great compliment and the kind words. Seeing that I'm not completely rusty after my hiatus makes me happy! Perhaps I can add a few detail-snippets to address your "con". And I was actually struggeling a lot with that skull you pointed out LOL. I have to figure out I can make it fit in. Thanks so much again!

I am in no way a great art critic. So, I think it's very good. I would have liked to have seen a bit more contrast. The work seems to be a bit dark overall. I understand that is what you were trying to achieve but it's a little difficult to differentiate some of the objects in the background. If you are in an Art class I would give you a good grade! You could definitely find someone to purchase the work but for my taste I would love it much better if I could see a slight (small) bit more light/dark contrast. Very good work.

thank you for the critique and the compliment! I meant to put emphasis on the wolf (perhaps I could have made it even brighter). Therefore I didn't want to add too many highlights to the background because they would distract too much from the focal point. I have to look at it on other monitors to see if it's perhaps even darker on screens other than mine. Thanks for pointing it out!

Beautiful. Just beautiful. There is literally no other words I can think of to describe this piece of artwork. It's stunning, the colour scheme is amazing, and the art style is just...amazing. I'm not well experienced in the field of critique, but even I know how to write one for this masterpiece, this magnum opus. It's amazing, and obviously took quite a long time to make. Even small, almost insignificant details, such as the blooms in the very background, are coloured and shaded with as much detail and care as the rest of this brilliant work of art. ErikShoemaker, you are amazing. We love you. Keep up the good work - your artwork is brilliant and beautiful enough to be professional.

I did not fav it first time, as I didn't understand what is going on, like what is this Boa doing behind...( I saw it on my mobile first) now, after looking closely I got to the conclusion that I should  exclude all questions and take it at the face value...which basically means don't ask, just watch and I like it very much since

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ErikShoemaker In reply to Digitiel [2017-05-28 08:29:59 +0000 UTC]

Sometimes it's best not to think too hard about my pictures. In this case the boa is meant to embody the danger and toxicity of the character. However the whole setting is a mere fantasy scene built around the wolf, which means to a big extent it just follows the rule of cool lol. Thanks a lot for the honest comment!
