I can see this being real, and the round looks to be about the same as .50 GI, so you could use something out there already and not have to develop a new ammunition. I'd want to see it in .45 acp too though, and it could interchange between calibers.

Very well thought out. I think the only things I might like to see different would be more of a hook to he cocking lever, which would make it easier to get a good grip on if the shooter is wearing gloves or if it's wet etc. That might be counter to the overall streamlined look you have going. Maybe have the cocking lever hinged so that it can fold down "flatter" when not in use. I also think that the magazines could use a bit of a spur to them on the bottom, not for weapon functionality but to aid in getting them out of the pouch and keeping them under positive control. My hat is off to you for the abidexterous features. Very nice design!

Mmm, a casket magazine may be the words you're looking for instead of 'four-column box'.
Good job on this, I like the light paint scratches and the overall shape.

As a nonlethal weapon, you want people to know it's nonlethal, and yellow is the color most often used for those (like tasers).

I'm slightly concerned about the octagonal rounds too, although I guess if they expand slightly on firing, and the barrel's got a twist to it, they should be fine in flight. Agree on the lack of iron sights as a backup too, although I'm sure most users would stick a red dot sight on the rail.

Love the overall design though - I've been thinking a bit about less-lethal weapon designs like this, and settled on caseless (which this looks like) too, but wonder if even the .50 is still too small?

If it's shooting Non-Lethal rounds made of rubber it might not shoot very far. so no need for sights when all your shooting at is close by.

I like the octagonal shape of the rounds. Care to explain that please? It looks amazing.

Octagonal bullets seem like asking it to jam.

LouisTarado In reply to vidgamer123 [2013-03-31 23:57:49 +0000 UTC]

There is polygonal rifling for round bullets, the edges of the polygons are the rifling, spiralling inside the length of the barrel, giving the bullet it's spin and accuracy. Yeah, I think polygonal rifled barrels would have more like 16 or more sides, not only 8, but you have to give allowance for the nature of 3D art and saving polygon count to allow faster render...maybe it's not meant to "read" as being that low of a poly count, but in the action of a game setting you wouldn't really be able to see it.

CadianConcript [2011-05-29 20:10:34 +0000 UTC]

Interesting, detailed info but what is with the octagonal barrel and bullets? Interesting choice of colors. I see no iron or any other sights/optics, how do you aim that thing? The render is good, what software are you using for rendering? They are some strange looking effects in the hand-grip and hand-guard, I guess it has something to do with the UV/normal maps of the texture. Overall I'd give it 7 out of 10 because I don't like octagonal barrel and bullets, it just don't seem right.

Isn't there an assault rifle IRL that uses an octagonal barrel and round bullets? The Xuihcoatl, I think it's called.

CadianConcript In reply to Ovni-the-UFO [2011-06-21 22:41:19 +0000 UTC]

hm... how would a round bullet be shot from an octagonal barrel? ...and what will be it's ballistics? That's complete nonsense Ask anyone who knows basic principles of firearms - they'll tell you the same thing. That barrel here is clearly octagonal on the "inside", hence there's no chance of firing a round bullet out of it with any hope for accuracy or without jamming the weapon, things just don't work that way, man. Just don't

Well there's an assault rifle with that setup:

It's still rotated like regular rifling. And it apparently works. So please don't tell me things don't work like that. XD

CadianConcript In reply to Ovni-the-UFO [2011-06-22 05:33:03 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, apparently it works But there is still a difference between the links you show me and that one here. Note the "smooth" edges of the bore. The general look may seem octagonal but technically - it's not I suggest we stop that pointless discussion, right... about... now.

I don't have a clue what inspired this, but the design is incredible. It actually looks viable AND functional, not to mention the striking photorealism you've got going on there.

The logo design for the fictional company you've got is also pretty good.

I like how the plating fits together in a streamlined way that's still kinda bulky, but well rounded. The colouration also fits very well.

Nice job on the specifications in the description, too, it's smart.
