My favorite pet during my childhood. My brother and I would take a long walk to this one square area that they didn't pave over in our suburbs and it was filled with turtles. It couldn't have been more than a half acre, but it was large enough to create an ecosystem where these box turtles could flourish. We made a wood structure and had a few. One we named "Myrtle". It was around the late '50's. I subsequently developed a love for diving and snorkeling and it could have been due to my childhood influences. It will be a monstrous development if we destroy land and ocean ecosystems and our progeny won't be able to experience them.
