Hey guys! I'm excited to share my latest map, the Island of the West. This was made for a “Map this shape” challenge on the Cartographers' Guild.

The workflow for this was completely new to me so it took me a lot more time than it would now (30h, plus about half of that in conlanging), but every step has been super enjoyable! I started out by roughly painting the reliefs in PhotoShop. I then reworked the outcome in Wilbur to make them look more realistic, and imported the result into Inkscape, where I did… everything else.

I intended this to look like a generic map for tourism purposes. I’m sure this island would attract many people with its tropical climate, mountains, active volcanic sites and picturesque cities. Speaking of volcanoes, I didn't try to reproduce anything scientifically accurate, but it would resemble a chaotic hotspot event lasting long enough that it ends up with huge water-filled calderas (hardly endorheic but maybe connected to the ocean from beneath?) and extinct volcanoes alongside active ones.

The title and labels are in Aheezee, a conlang of mine. All of the names have an actual etymology except for one or two (literally no more than that). If you want to learn more about the conlang (and maybe take guesses at some of the etymologies – I'd be curious to see what you figure out!), you can look it up here .

Alright, that's about it, but questions and feedback are very welcome! I hope you enjoy my work.
