Whew! I'm so happy to finally share my Korra boots with you all!
I'm super excited to debut them at Sogen Con in Sioux Falls, SD this weekend!This has been a 55-60 hour summer project that I started last month. My fiance has been quite patient with me as I single-mindedly slaved over these boots (We affectionately have been calling them my booties). I took a short moccasin pattern and reworked it so that it'd work for tall, slip-on boots... remaking and constantly revising patterns is a pain in the ass, but I finally got them so they are wide enough for me to tuck my pant legs into comfortably.
When making these boots, I was really trying to take as much inspiration from Native American and Inuit moccasin styles I've seen because, after all, the Water Tribe is visibly influence by Inuit and Native cultures. In case you are interested in the materials, they are hand-crafted out of leather and trimmed with sheep fur.

Ok. It's embarrassing how long it's taken for me to reply to you, but I will do my best to make a tutorial. I might have to email it to people interested because I dont have a paint program or photoshop to help make one of those large scrolling tutorials. I'll let you know when I've made it!

What did you use for the soles of the boots? I'm trying to make some boots fr my armour, but I can't figure out what to make the soles from.
Also, how hard-wearing are they? (I live in an area with a lot of rough stony ground, and would rather my boots didn't wear through on the first wearing)

I used about a 1/4 inch thick saddle leather for the soles. To make wearing the boots a little more comfortable, I put a sole insert into the boot (trust me, it's worth it!).
As for how hard wearing they are, the soles should last a fairly long time. The guy who gave me the thick leather for the sole said that he's been wearing the shoes he made with the same leather for a few years now. If you're really worried about the sole wearing through, though, you can always get a thicker leather to use. I made these boots purely as costume boots to be primarily worn inside at conventions, though they would fair just fine outside as long as I stayed away from mud and wet patches.

Ok, wow... I'm sorry it's taken so long to respond to this; this semester at school got really crazy (thanks chemistry...).
I attacked the fur with LOTS of patience! lol
Do all your measuring and cutting out on the leather side of the piece. It's easiest if you use a razor blade to cut through the leather. This way, you don't accidentally give your fur an awkward hair cut.
You have to be careful when you are stitching through fur or else your thread will pull the hair through your stitching holes and create a matted mess. What I did to avoid this was to part the fur and create a mini 'bald' spot where I was stitching so I wouldn't get any of the fur in my way.

I saw your full Korra cosplay, it looked awesome! And you made San's too! I wanted to make Mononoke Hime's San too, but alas, again, I just can't find the fur, so I dropped it in Korra's favor, because you only need a bit of fur... that I can still find LOL Anyway, thank you, I'll be eagerly awaiting! It will be my first cosplay and probably a one time thing.

You could opt to do the sheep fur route. It is easily found (in Ikea for example), unless you are not a real fur/leather user, which I completely understand as well.

I'm not that much into real furs... but I know where to find some sheep like, I'll have to resort to that if I don't find the other kind *sigh* Oh and I will show, I must have shots of my first cosplay after all

In a small animecon called Portusaki here in Portugal, I'm going to another one called IberAnime too in Octuber and will be the last of the year. I didn't actually get many photos, or at least GOOD photos due to some shyness you get by wearing your first cosplay (at least with me it was LOL), but I might have one or two to show.
