Very impressive realistic shading on the eagle! I always felt the final battle in Eagle wasn't nearly as epic or long as it should have been, but this is an iconic pose nonetheless.

Unforunately I haven't managed to see Richard Sharpe on TV or DVD yet. I've read all the books though. I'm getting a box set of the DVDs soon. Good depiction of Sharpe.

...excuse me while I go get a drool bucket.

Seriously, not enough people draw Richard (and even less draw the Chosen Men), so it's just really nice to find someone else who does. ^^ And you've done him justice, too.

Oh, I found something you might find interesting, by the way: [link] It's a Sharpe webring, but the only problem is that it's in Japanese. XD (I can't read the text, but I go to look at the artwork. XD)

I actually drew a picture of all seven of them (Richard included) in school today, but I have to touch it up a lot.

Like I said, I love all of them and I agree, there's not much fan art out there. So I'm going to change that!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kigari In reply to enednoviel [2005-01-12 22:25:23 +0000 UTC]

I've been trying to change it myself...they're so deserving, and yet no one (except for maybe those people on the Japanese webring and a few artists I've met on dA) seems to know who they are. (Surely people can recognize at least Richard?)

enednoviel In reply to Kigari [2005-01-13 09:26:58 +0000 UTC]

I do hope so! But you're right, Sharpe is not very well-known. Pity, because it's such a great yarn (both in the books and the TV series). It's pretty famous in Great Britain but that's about it I guess. In Germany almost no one knows the series. It was shown on German TV once, but no one really noticed it, because it was shown in the middle of the night.

Nearly nobody seems to know it in America, either...I bring the books into school to read them in my spare time there, though, and I eventually succeeded in converting one of my friends. XD But spreading it around is still so hard...no one seems interested, and if I try to talk about it I'm either ignored or told to shut up. -_-

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

enednoviel In reply to Kigari [2005-01-13 22:05:15 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I've heard that it isn't really popular in the USA... Sean Bean complained that he is only known as the bad guy in the US.

Oh, I have "converted" most my friends around me, at least with the TV-Series.
But I don't really had to persuade most of them, because most of my friends at least liked Sean Bean before they had seen Sharpe.

He usually is, what with playing people like Trevelyan...it annoys me. That's not to say that he doesn't do it well. XD

You're lucky. Mine just thwack me over the head and tell me to shut up. XD Someday they'll hopefully understand...

enednoviel In reply to Kigari [2005-01-14 12:56:23 +0000 UTC]

Yeah... indeed. When I was younger I always fell for the shining hero. Now I have a soft spot for the bad guy, and Sean Bean plays a huge part in this.

And yes, I'm glad that my friends also like Sharpe, because when I'm in the right mood I'm babbling about it all the time. Sharpe this, Harper that... hmmm... seems that my friends around me not only have a good taste but also good nerves and a lot of patience (with me).

Yes! Evil is cool! XD Sean does make it even better, though, I agree.

I do that, as well, although the only person who knows what I'm talking about is my one converted friend. I really need to convert the others, too...that'd make things easier.

The "Sharpe"-series is about the British soldier Richard Sharpe during the Napoleonic Wars. There are 14 movies, based on the novels by Bernard Cornwell. Sharpe, played by Sean Bean, is a common soldier who starts off in the ranks and is promoted after he saves the life of Lord Wellington. He leads a small group of Rifleman, the "Chosen Men", who are more or less a bunch of rogues. But you just have to love them. It's a great series, I can really recommend it. oh ok, interesting .. i still dont get why he has an eagle? that isnt a british symbol is it? i thought the lion was their animal mascot thing

Oh, sorry, you can't know that if you haven't read the book or seen the movie.
In the story of "Sharpe's Eagle" Sharpe's regiment loses the Union Jack / the King's Colours in a battle because of a stupid senior officer. Therefore Sharpe tries to even out the score by taking an eagle from the French. The eagles were similar to the King's Colours - touched by Napoleon's hand himself, but they were guarded well. However, at the end, Sharpe get's his eagle as you can see!
