Ferocity could be considered normal, if you grow up poor and biracial in a country that thinks "halfbloods" shouldn't exist. He understands his society, in its complexity, contradictions, and bigotry. But that changes nothing, an outsider is an outsider, he can only distain it, curse and laugh at it.
