With no legs of any sorts, this rendering of a basilisk sure has a touch of a wyvern.Ā

In acuallity, basilisks are man sized raptor like creatures that cannot turn things to stone. The first encounter with a basilisk goes like this: a man in mideival times was being chase by a red basilisk, and then fell into a pool of strange grey molasses, and the basil pulled him out. The gunk then immediately hardened like cement, freezing the human in place forever as the basil inspected the statue, a passerby saw it and immediately Thot tha basilisk had turned the man to stone with its glare

Don't forget that the only way to defend yourself or kill that creature is only one simple, but amazing tool: A MIRROR. ;DĀ

I thought a basilisk and a cockatrice were similar but in fact different creatures. A basilisk is more of a lizard that turns people to stone where a cockatrice is the flying snake-chicken that turns people to stone. Like a Gorgon which is the snake haired person that turns people to stone. All three are similar in magical powers but different creatures.

That would justify there being two different names!

One of my favourite mythical creatures, said to have hatched from a chicken egg fertilized by a toad, isn't it?
I really like how you portrayed it (him?). ^^

No problem. I'm wondering if you have any knowledge of what Unicorns originally were supposed to look like before they became horned horses?
I read it in a single book, and I can't find that book now... Originally they actually looked kind of like a hybred between a hippo, a goat, and a giraffe or something if I remember correctly.

This is the first I'd heard of that! I do know that unicorns are supposed to based on early sightings of rhinos. The Persian unicorn, the Karkadann, looks something like a rhino, so that could give the theory some credence.

I wanted to create a story where Ms. Leleb meets an actual unicorn that looks like that, and she's kind of surprised that it's not what she thinks it is.
I have a lot of ideas to have old mythological creatures in my Snooze and Mat comics(mostly cause that universe has a lot of ties to mythology.)
