Description I really enjoy drawing old people. wrinkles, features and details of their faces attract me.

I saw this picture [link] for a couple of weeks ago and loved to give it a try.

I asked for the owner permission but unfortunately I have not received any replies until now! I hope he would not mind me using it as a reference though I did this free hand and changed a lil in the features as i added the tears, the wrinkles, etc to suite my taste.

This was done on strathmore charcoal paper.
Mechanical pencils
A4 size

As most of my other drawings, every time I look at it I feel that it lacks something ad i keep adding. I have been adjusting here and there since the last few days and finally decided to stop and share it with you.

Any comments and critiques are welcome as i will not fix it now until i am 100% sure that i will not retouch..

Hi Emad,

A beautiful and very moving work. I like the skin textures and the interesting background treatment. If you have not fixed it yet, might I suggest darkening the veins in her hand slightly and adding shadow to the various branches of the veins. To me they seem to stand out and draw my attention immediately to her hand rather than her face.

Beautiful. I look forward to seeing the final piece.

Cheers,

Craig

Thank you so much Craig.

Yes, i agree with you. Actually a lot of guys here and somewhere else tolda me about it. I will for sure adjust. I usually fix my drawing with a reworkabl fixative, so no issue..

Glad to hear from you pal.

Beautiful, the history in her face is so evident, yet at peace.

I like it very much Emad. Well done my friend.

I see where you're going with the tiny frail shoulders and I like it, I wonder if maybe you could make her cheek shadows more angular along their outer edge instead of rounded it might thin her face a little more to back up the frail look. Do you see what I mean?

Hm...

Personally, I think her wrinkles are very unnatural. Probably because the ref photo was so small, but still

Dude, it may not be your most realistic piece (and I kjnow you can do some crazy-good realism!), but I really like it! I like how the wrinkles in her face look more like cracks, and her hand is so sinewy! And, most of all - you finally got some DARK darks in there! And a background that compliments the figure well. Simple, but the patchy wall is a good accompaniment to her cracking face.
Personally, I think it's quite finished just as it is! Great job! THis is something print-worthy, dude

Glad that you liked it pal, and many thanks for the

As for going dark, it is not my first dark portriate, I have darker tahn this in my gallery!..

PS: I liek that she has no shoulders...it gives more of a hunched and frail feel...
I think it's kinda a creepy and cyptic picture. It almost looks like she's dead or a ghost or some variation of those things.

emaghrabi In reply to Kyre [2006-12-22 16:35:05 +0000 UTC]

lol

Yeah, it looks creepy to me too. As for the shoulders, I mean it to be like this to look very skiny and the hand supports that I believe!

Thanks again for evrything..

this is something that is too late to do much about but she needs more shoulders? I don't know if you agree. A lot of neat stuff going on in your drawing though. Her hand looks eerie cool!

hmm, I actually meant the shoulders to be like this. very skiny and the hand supports that. Or what do you think?
