Description Rot the Siberian Husky.

Rot is old and totally blind (cataract) but my boss told me that he's really strong. He could pull a sledge all by himself. Blindness doesn't stop him running because during sledding he can run very close to the husky next to him and follow his moves.
He's chained in the yard because he can't live in a cage with other huskies. He collides with everything...
He's quite reserved with strange people but kind anyway. He used to avoid me too but now he usually comes to greet me when I walk by.

There is one advantage to being a blind dog.
You get the most adorable little derp eyes!

I have a blind sled dog. He ran the Iditarod a couple years ago. His name is Velcrow, and he doesn't like to have babied help either, as he also enjoys to pull the sled with this team mates too. Velcrow went blind from a rare genetic virus that dogs can get.
I love hearing stories like this.

Rot is very pretty also. I like his coloring.

Terrific story that this 'pup' is doing so well. I have a 14 year-old Shiba Inu that went blind (glaucoma). It took us a little while to accept the adjustment but she still tries to rule the house and is quite annoyed that the furniture hasn't learned to get out of her way. She gets quite feisty when her 'Seeing-Eye Mom' is on the other end of her leash.
Dogs are amazing creatures if we just learn to give them a chance.

Heheh, your dog sounds lovely It's nice to hear she's doing well despite of the glaucoma.
Yes, they truly are!

Seeing this and knowing that he hasn't let losing his eye sight ruin his determination is truly inspiring. I think that people can learn a lot from animals, this one especially.

I had one-eyed husky, she leaded my pack. In age of 7 years she were totally blind, in age 8 years she died. It was something wrong with her head, maybe a tumor said our vet. She was good dog too

She was a beautiful dog!
Dogs are great because they don't let small injuries ruin their life. They just keep living with what they still have. People should learn from them.

It is good to see that even with a handicap this fellow is leading a long, happy and most of all, productive life! Bravo to the owner for not giving up on him~!

Yep I really enjoy working here because the owners are so kind to the dogs. Even though some dogs are already so old that they can't run anymore, they can still live a peaceful life with the other huskies. One of the cages is called the "retirement home" because all the huskies there are old "grandmas", hehe.

Wow, I've never seen a blind animal before in my life, but my mother used to have a dog that was losing his sense of smell a bit. Such a sweetie too. Shame that some b*stard had to say he bit a small child and an elderly elderly lady. Old Buddy would never do that unless they were hurting someone. >:C But I bet that Rot is the sweetest thing ever. How old is he anyway? He looks about 9 or 10. Possibly 11? :3

Elkenar In reply to SnuWolf [2011-12-05 19:20:44 +0000 UTC]

It's wrong they claimed such a thing about Buddy :/
Yeah, if I remember right, he's 10 or 11. Yep, he's a funny dog. Actually, today his chain suddenly snapped and we found him wandering between the cages. He was totally lost and had no idea where he was, luckily he didn't get far.

SnuWolf In reply to Elkenar [2011-12-06 08:10:45 +0000 UTC]

Oh that's good, may not want to use iron or rustable metal chains in the winter though.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Elkenar In reply to SnuWolf [2011-12-06 15:08:22 +0000 UTC]

Heheh, yeah. And even if the chains were of high quality, they can still get broken when it suddenly gets very cold here and the huskies tend to pull hard.

Elkenar In reply to whitekratoswolf [2011-12-03 16:18:02 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, indeed!
I know that it would be a horrible punishment for Rot if he wasn't allowed to continue doing his work just because he can't see anymore. Huskies love sledding so much.
