Warning: Long rant ahead.I got a request to draw Skywise, which led to this - my first portrait of him. (Since I was eight, anyway, but that doesn't count, as I just drew a cloud of white hair and was happy.)
Anyway, I owe all non-Wendy EQ-artist a humble apology.
I've often thought to myself that Skywise is one of those characters many professional EQ-artist just don't get right. And I didn't get it. He's one of the characters who has the most "screentime" in the EQ saga, he's got so recognizable traits. How difficult could it be to get a good likeness?
Then I got this request. My first try looked like a silvery squirrel on speed with a scary grin. It was incredibly difficult to get him right, and in the end, this is my best try. Still not 100% happy, but it's OK, I guess.
So to all you fan-artist out there who have beautiful Skywise-art around the internet... kudos!

How could anyone capture the sky? Skywise is the one character who is like the sky, his face is like the sky, moving, changing, showing all different sides. You got his expression point on here. The enthusiasm of him. The face is a bit too round and childish but he is hard one. You did great job!Β

He is SO much harder to draw than he looks, man. XDDD He's got a real weird structure, that's appealing to the eye, but hard to replicate.

I have to add this to my favourites just for the rant about getting Skywise right... well, not really. It's a very, very good Skywise. One of the best I've seen (including the original works. ^^)
