Description
Castiel watched in horror as Dean crumpled to the ground clutching his chest.

“Dean!” Cas cried out, his voice cracking as he fought to keep control. He stumbled over to the bleeding man and gently took him in his arms.

“DeanDeanDean,” he murmured, rocking back and forth while pressing one hand over the gash in Deans chest. The beast that dealt the blow lay a few feet away dying in a river of its own blood, a wicked grin curled across its face.

“Filthy angel…you have…no place here…” it hissed painfully.

Castiel barely heard the words, his attention focused solely on Dean who appeared to be slipping in and out of consciousness.

No. Castiel thought. It couldn’t end like this, not here, not now.

“Cas” Dean coughed. “You gotta…make it…sammy…”

His words were barely whispers, and his face creased with pain from the effort.

“I’m not letting you die here damn it.” Cas managed to gasp.

“Cas…I can’t,” and with that Dean’s head fell backwards.

NO! Castiel screamed silently. His vision blurred gold as he felt himself start to lose control, and in a burst of light he began to transform. He could feel his wings begin to take form, his body begin to grow, and his other faces push forward eager to reveal themselves. In a panic he clutched Dean closer and tried to channel some of the power into protecting him. Castiel felt his bones break and mend a thousand times, felt the skin around them tear and expand as his muscles took on a new form. He watched the world fade away beneath him as he rose up above the trees, taking Dean along with him.

Dean! He thought frantically, careful not to speak for fear of hurting Dean even more. He looked down in his arms and felt a wave of relief wash over him, Dean was still cradled there.

My hunter, you are safe.

In the back of his mind Castiel wondered how long he could maintain his true form in this realm before burning up what little power of his remained. He felt a small pull at his heart, and he smiled as Deans wounded body started to heal itself in Castiels light. The small action took a surprisingly large amount of power though, and he felt his new body begin to weaken.

The beast had been right, angels had no place here. As soon as Dean finished healing he attempted to reign in his power and return to human form, but to no avail. Worry crossed his face, it was as he had feared. Once the flow of power had been released there was no stopping it, he would continue to consume power until there was nothing left of him.

Dean… he thought mournfully, slowly leaning over to get a better look at the man sleeping peacefully in his arms.

I do not have much time left, but all I have I give to you…
