Description Mandrake's Marque.

Mandrake is an interesting house, it is a companion house to Valerian in many ways, and specialises in the giving of pain. Yup, the S&M house (well, kind of). Its motto is "Yield all".

This one is a bit different to many of the others. Firstly, mandrake is one heck of a difficult plant to work with - thanks Jacqueline Carey! Mandrakes ... *sighs* *shakes head* And also, its a big marque. If mandrake people are to be able to give pain properly to their clients, they need to have experienced pain themselves. At least, I think so. Hence, the big marque and lots of shading.

I like it though my opinion would have been a whip or something more along those lines as opposed to the chain. Seeing as you had already used it in Valerian and because chains are kinda the opposite to Mandrake. Though splendid job on the artwork.

I love your justification...though I'm not sure if she really imagined the marques absolutely following all of the flowers/plants and all of their qualities. D'Angelines are interested in beauty and I'm sure they would have made all the marques stunning!

Just as you have!

I actually can understand the aspect of the numbing of pain- people who are masochistic on occasion seek the pain as a balm for emotional or mental hurts. Controlled physical pain to blot the pain you can't control, in a sense. It's the same sort of thought as those who self-mutilate.

I honestly really love it. Definately not something I would mind being etched into my skin.

Aren't mandrake used in numbing pain?

yup, its a really weird plant to use as a symbol for people that like inflicting pain! But the author, bless her, didn't ever seem to put much thought into what plant was best for each house ...

Mandrake is poisonous. Maybe that has something to do with her choosing it?
