Description

Year Made: 2011

A commission for a coworker of my aunt. She requested an abstract painting with those three colors and silver frames and left everything else to me. It was originally going to be a one piece, but turned into a three piece set because she wanted it to take up more space than an 18x24in would take. The background was originally going to be left alone, but I needed to make it work with the silver frames, so I showed her samples how each would work and she chose the silver background. She and her husband were very happy with both the painting and the price.

Three piece set: one 18x14in, two 8x20in. Watercolor on top of watered down silver acrylic paint. Black wooden frames painted with silver acrylic.

Payment Requested & Received: $150

How long did it take you to make these?

I can't remember. It was a year ago that I made them. I'd say a couple days at least, since I had to wait for each color (including the silvery background, which took forever) to dry before I could apply the next. Not to mention I had to make sample pieces for the commissioner and wait for her reply. And the frames took a whole day to paint by themselves.

So most of it was waiting for it to dry, right? And you got $150 out of it?

Pretty much. The hardest part was painting the frames.

Maybe I should get into the abstract business.
