I have been to a Huichol village in the state of Quanjuato outside of San Miguel de Allende in the mountains. Not many make it there as you must be invited, it is a very high honor. My adventure was historic and life altering. This form of art is tedious, amazing and as profound as the culture. High respect~
Thank you for sharing~

I didn't know there were Huichol villages near Guanajuato state, I always thought they lived more to the north! I'd love to see this form of art in the making, not in a gallery or museum, but in a village as you did. Sure it was great experience and honor! And yes there are two things I love the most of this art: the intricacy of designs and colors, and the deep roots it has to their culture and beliefs.
Were you able to take a picture or get a piece of art from that trip?

how are the beads applied?

In this case I don't know if they used the traditional method which consists in using a special kind of wax, named "cera de campeche" ( I don't know the name of it in english), to cover the object and then apply the beads to it by hand, using a needle as a guide. Traditionally, Huichol art is made on wood or bone, paper sculpture is more recent and gaining popularity, but this was the first time I saw them use metal as support.

I will if I ever meet them, the story behind this piece was published through local media in my country and the car itself was exhibited in a museum, where I took the shots. Huichol art is beautiful in every way and every handcraft, if you ever stumble upon it, get it, it's worth it. It's not only colors and composition, it's tradition, history and mythology of an important group of indigenous people. Non of their desings are coincidental, everything has a meaning. I'm glad you liked it that much!
