I've always been fascinated by creature design, ever since I read the Spiderwick Chronicles and the Dragonlover's Guide to Pern as a kid. My moðr got me a book on creature design for Yule-mas, and I've been just... immersed. I've got a set of random fauna tables that I found through the YouTube channel "Worldbuilding Notes" (if there are videos in Lojban, you're in the right place) and combined with the tips from this book I've been able to start working on putting together some vague ecosystems for the Five Realms! Starting with Liserna, because their animals are significantly less alien than say... Arcturus. Weird shit happens on Arcturus. I haven't ever mentioned it except in passing for Very Good Reason. As an example: one of the sentient races has two pairs of arms. That ONLY happens in Arcturus.

So, Liserna! It's generally colder and a smidge darker than Omnia, with a green sky, and a tendency toward black and violet plants. I've got some flora worked out for the various ecosystems - including some plants that are familiar to Earth that, in this universe, come from Liserna, like the Umbelliferae for example - and the plants in the savannah and grasslands actually tend toward gray, yellow, and violet, which means they aren't competing with each other for the same type of light. Thus, the Scrap Cats tend toward gray and yellow. If I do a re-color at some point, I'll make their darker patches more violet.

Scrap cats are scavengers. Surprisingly - given their Highly Carnivorous cousins, the Ice Lions - they're primarily herbivores (thus the big, barrel-like stomach) but can sniff out and unearth buried carcasses. They are in some competition with the other native carrion eaters (corvids, vultures, and the Serranian Condor) but tend to fill the same kinds of niches that wild boars do. Their biggest natural predator is the Manticore, which I will be detailing later. Scrap cats also do quite well in cities and towns, and some species have been domesticated by the Risar as pets.

They aren't the only boar-like creature in Liserna, however. Entelodonts - aka, Dire Boars - also make their homes in the mammoth steppe common to some areas. Scrap cats tend to stay WELL out of their way. Pretty much the only two things that hunt Entelodonts are Manticore (and then only because they can bite and Run the FJHSD Away) and the Risar. Entelodonts actually lived on Earth back in the Miocene, if you want to look that up. They're called Hell Pigs for a reason.

So yeah! Them Scrap cats - which I also once mistyped as Scarp Cats, which also kinda fits. I have no idea what they're called in-world, probably in Serranian of some variant, but they translate to scrap cat.

UPDATE: I may in fact yoink this design for Uthir, now that I've moved to it instead of Omnia: The Hot Mess. (It's not that bad, it just feels that way.)
