If you use this, I'd love it if you dropped me a comment - even if it's just a link.

Should work fine in Firefox and IE, haven't tested on other browsers - then again there aren't any images, only CSS. I mainly only touch CSS when school assignments requires it and even then I always focus more on the graphics than the code; this was a kind of challenge for myself to make something without Photoshop. Feedback much appreciated.

A huge, huge thanks to ^ginkgografix and `thespook for helpful tuts and advice.

READ BEFORE USE
(will NOT be answering questions if I've already answered it here)

To insert a title/quote like I did in the preview ("Please read..."), use div tags like these without the spaces:
< div class = "title" > Your quote/title < / div>

To insert a pagebreak (the blue line dividing the text and the thumbs), use < hr > without the spaces.

To use the thumb gallery, use this code (again, no spaces):
< div class="minigal" > :thumb####: :thumb####: :thumb####: :thumb####: ...etc< /div>
Code for this is from `thespook - I only did some slight color modifications. You can read more about the minithumbs on his journal here: [link]

To modify the menu, go to the Options tab while you're editing your journal. You'll find the menu in the Skin Header section - replace the # with your own links and name the list items approprietly.

You may add as many items you want to the menu (it's a horizontal list, by the way, that's why I call it "list items") or remove them altogether - either way it should work fine.

You may change the colors or modify the skin in any way you like.

I will probably make more color variations, so you're free to come with requests (as long as they're not "I want one exactly like this, only with the links in a different color). Also please check my gallery to make sure I haven't done that color before.

Edits
Dec 25th:
Changed title font from 50px to 40px.
Fixed menu in IE.

Hi Eilo I was wondering if you could help me out?

I copied this journal skin and have only change the red to a pale blue (on hover and such), everything else should be the same. However, my title is the default DA Green colour? While editing the journal, it is white, but once updated and 'published' it goes green. I've tried looking for the code area for the title but I'm not fluent with CSS. Could you point me in the right direction? <3 Thankyou so much in advance!

The journal I am currently trying to fix;  DreadmireArguable living in the harshest environment on ?, the nation of Dreadmire is one of survival and strength.
The people are lead by a monarchy, with one royal bloodline holding the throne for a dozen generations. King ? rules with a fierce loyalty to his people, and with his guard high against his neighboring countries of Baerin and Rhamar. Though they are known to fight wars, Dreadmire will not actively seek trouble.. yet. Should trouble come knocking on their doorstep, however, be prepared for a vicious reply.

There is an impending threat to the nation of Dreadmire. Their mines are the source of 90% of their trade, but eventually those resources will run dry. With no fertile land, harsh climates, uninhabitable land, and nothing to trade, the country will eventually fall into poverty. For this reason, the royal family are fighting tirelessly to secure more land. However, negotiations are f

This is near perfection to what I've been looking for ...but if I might make a color suggestion...this gray instead of combining with red (links, menu), would have purple it would just be wicked--well for me anyway (I adore that combination gray-purple)!!!

Is it simple, could I change it myself, even though I'm not huge with CSS coding and stuff?? I'd appreciate the help...I love the skin anyway

Never mind the "They can both be found in the stylesheet"... it was supposed to be "You can find the code in the stylesheet".

But I need to know what you want changed so I can figure out which part of the code you need to look at

To modify the menu, go to the Options tab while you're editing your journal. You'll find the menu in the Skin Header section - replace the # with your own links and name the list items approprietly.

Hmm.. been some weeks since I've looked at the code (by the way, it's css, not html )

There are actually 4 colors used for the text in this. They can both be found in the stylesheet (hit the Options tab when you edit your journal).

1 - the red links
2 - the grey main text
3 - the dark grey date + mood text
4 - the light grey titles + mood text

Did you want to change all or only one?

WayneTech-SPFX In reply to Eilorendil [2010-01-28 19:27:39 +0000 UTC]

I just want to change the text color. If at all possible can you update the skin, and change the text color to black? Or point out step by step, on how to change the text color the part where I type want I want in the journal. The color showed up like a white/grayish color, and I couldn't make out everything that I typed in the final version.

Hello I'd love to write you some kind of critique, because I really like your series of journal skins.

First off, I'm really impressed by your results. You haven't use any additional graphics and still managed to create a clean, elegant and what is the most important - interesting journal design. I like the colour scheme of this one particularly. Backgrounds are subdued so that the text is easily readable. Not to mention a nice font that work well with the whole design.

I love the fact that you didn't leave it altogether grey but added some awesome red accents. They make a journal more lively and are a really nice addition. I like a hover effect on links a lot!

It's almost a perfect journal skin. The only bug I noticed is that in actual journal moods don't have this bottom padding that is visible on the screenshot. They are all a little bit crowded. (FF 3.5.6). It's a minor issue, though.

Overall along with the great looks comes great usability. The skin is as simple as it can be for a user. You just paste a bunch of text and it looks awesome. When you want some fancy features you have them all listed in artist comments in a clear way. It's great!

Congratulations on creating such an impressive skin. I hope to see more of your works in the future

Thank you

Yes... I notice that this version got the most installs by far, heh. It's a bit ironic since I started out with the intention of making a skin where the color was the most important part, the one thing that would make it really "pop". I'm glad you like it. Sometimes I tend to write really long journals, and I wanted a skin that was clean and simple, yet bold at the same time. You're right; it does work well even if you strip it of everything but text - I tried As for the bottom padding.. I haven't noticed For me it looks exactly as in the preview. But if you need it, I can take a look at the code and tweak it a bit (or tell you which parts to tweak) - don't think it should be too hard.

Thank you again for writing such a great response! It's not often people take the time to give such detailed feedback, even if you're a member with Request Critique enabled. I really, really appreciate it - made my day I'm happy you notice things I tried to work with on this skin - even though it's really simple, I spent alot of time trying out different fonts, colors, sizes, paddings/margins etc.

Best wishes for the new year!

Hello! This is really awesome skin. I love simplicity. I'm new to DA so.. hmm.. do you have the manual codes? Coz I can't install them automatically through DA because I'm not under paid account =X. Sorry for the trouble!

Thank you, I'm glad you like it But I have to tell you that non-subscribers can't have CSS in their journal at all, whether it's manually or automatically installed - it needs to be pasted in under the "Options" tab when you edit your journal, and you don't have access to it. Sorry
