Eggplantm In reply to ??? [2010-09-28 17:38:03 +0000 UTC]
I really don't have time for art trades and I'm really sorry to say that cause I was enjoying them.
I can possibly update some text. You write out the text if it is a major change or just tell me what needs correcting if it is just a few typos.

Just a few changes for the text. Under the Species section, Yu'than should be in parenthesis (Yu'than) and separated from the word Unicorn - don't know how that happened. And lastly, under Real Name: Put Chalice or Desrye Chalice, which ever sounds better, the two names together or just Chalice by itself. Diamond Fox does sound a bit too frilly. She was supposed to be named after the V-shaped marks on her body, Chalice is a better description than Diamond Fox, yes?
Too bad about the art trade. The next one I'd have you do would get people to turn heads for sure.
Still, I should complete the one I'm working on now. If you'd be so kind as to answer my questions about Nightmare.

Um. She sounds like a mary sue to me.

Mary Sue? How do you figure? I don't get it...

Aravelle In reply to KuuztinR [2010-07-29 18:48:29 +0000 UTC]
Well, she has a twin. She has a ridiculous, impossibly frilly name. I mean βDiamond Foxβ? She is mutiple species, and a hybrid of anything tends to be a bit...tacky when creating characters. Anthros are especially prone to being sues, but a UNICORN? Oh, and she happens to be single despite the wedding runes. And she has a rock hard body despite being 36. She has too many powers. And she is the possessor of a rare ability, which plays a part in a war.
Look at the definition of a mary sue. She fits it. [link]
Here's also a pretty obvious way to tell if your character is a sue.

If you still aren't sure, take the quiz. This is a great writing tool, my friends and I use it all the time.

*chuckling* Some of what you say I find very true; like her name. Her name is Desrye, the rest is merely filler for the format of the bio page, and subject to change.
I suppose her powers seem a bit extreme, but some perspective is needed too. Some powers are standardized, meaning just about everyone has them - including enemies. Consider the limitations and the powers she doesn't have. She's not that powerful, a flashbang could take her out - and has. Mann's character, Nightmare, could easily defeat her. As far as the rest... well it helps to know the full story - but it's not for everyone.
Her story is based on our modern economic problems, how greed lead corporations and CEOs to fleece nations and harm people. I mean how many jobs have you lost due to sky-rocketing gas prices? I've lost 2.
All the same, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I'll be sure to look them up.

Ah. If she just kept Desrye, that'd be fine. It is actually a pretty name.
I see.
You're welcome ^^

Out of a morbid sense of curiosity what is the male version of a "Mary Sue"?
And what would you call this:

Aravelle In reply to KuuztinR [2010-11-15 23:37:51 +0000 UTC]
The male version is either called a Gary Stu or Marty Stu.
I would definetly call that cliche. The last of the species, great powers, tries to be badass, plays a major role in a war, isn't human... its so boring. Its basically a robot on steroids; Marduke is most likely a "Stu".

Interesting question. She does have some... odd views on hospitality. She views sleeping naked with her guests as good manners.
Though I think she'd focus mainly on getting out of trouble, and rescuing her sister.

Well I hope your OC likes tall girls, she's 7' 2" and 167 lbs. Eventually she'll find someone to love, because her interest in people is what got her and Estelle into trouble.
Since chemistry plays a strong role in who they mate with, there are rituals that should be had before anything takes place.
Here is Desrye's and Estelle's story. You'll be very interested, I'm sure. *Winks* [link]

... Well shoot, now you got me and wondering what would happen. Well there's only one way to solve it: A fight to the death by seeing who can conquer the world first. Plans are in the works where I can take Russia and China in... oh wait... scratch that idea. We'll RP it out. Send me a Note some time and we'll see what happens.
The ritual is a game called Nightmare. It plays out like hide&seek. A group of mares hide, and the stallion... er... the male... searches for them, using mainly his sense of smell. Since characteristics imprint on their pheromones, the mare with the most compatible traits will lure the... male. The mare most compatible for the male will be found first in almost every game. It's called Nightmare because their Mustang cousins created it (when mares would hide at night).
At first I wouldn't think Desrye would be interested in a man but then I backtracked some other stories I've done. I've got an male elf with a female centaur (ones with two legs not four). Plus her grandparents were a unicorn and a winged horse, which was considered forbidden among the Myth Union. Then her father, Aurelius, was transformed into a Yu'than form, which is comprised of unicorn, winged horse, elf, and centaur. Can we say identity crisis? A man named Hotep also frequently flirted with her mother, Malisal... so perhaps it's possible.
Here's some extra pictures of Desrye if you'd like to fav them:

Much thanks. I should tell you too, you've inspired me more than I realized. Not only have I adopted some of your technique, I've also, unconsciously, took on your work ethic. Times are tough, and money tight, so I've been offering free gift art to my watchers, the way you too have offered free trades.
At the risk of sounding mushy, I just thought you'd like to know that your example inspires others.

Thank you. I do appreciate that compliment. I try to produce some level of good work and have a sense of pride in what I do but not only that to have a reason that I draw things the way I do. I've been inspired by many artists as well. Some of which are here.

I like his method too. Don't worry about her story, it comes to a good ending. But what hero's story isn't full of tribulation?
One character of mine has a saying: "The legends of Heroes and Mighty Sires are written in their blood and tears."
