Description Now there's something Farrere and Iggy have in common.. they're both agonizingly sore losers. N'aw, poppets *pets them*

This is a silly comic I made to test out what drawing on CS4 is like. I wish it wasn't amazing, because it'll be years before I can afford it >_>

I had French help from (merciii c: ), as my French is composed entirely of greetings, pleasantries and how-to-order-food and also how to ask someone to come to bed with me, but we all know that one xD

"C'est des conneries." means "That's bullshit."

"L'anglais est une langue vraiment con." means "English is a fucking stupid language."

Farrere only ever swears in French/Enuin lol Interestingly, while googling all the above French, I discovered that variants of "con" seem to make up all their curses.. Which sure makes it easier (i.e. How to Offend in French in One Word or Less)

... I should draw Farrere speaking Enuin more often.. it does things to me~ CB

yeah, I wish I'd looked up whether a version of "defenestrate" was used in other languages, because there's a French version, too, which makes my comic look pretty silly xD

Yes, english is a stupid language, but guess what, french too! With all the verb tenses and feminine and masculine words, everything to make poeple go crazy with it! And, just so you know, you should have write " L'anglais est une langue vraiment conne" because "con" is masculine but it should have been in it's feminine form ^^ Like I said, French's a stupid language XD

By the way, I love what you do :3

I love you more every time you use correct French in a strip. I know, I'm a self-centered jerk.
By the way, "dΓ©fenestrer" does exist in French It's pretty common language, too.
Well, whatever, Enuin isn't French (and once again, artistic license saves the day \o/).

Sorry, Farrere. That's just how English rolls. I bet English got beat up a lot in kindergarten for being so strange. Seeing how its so widely spoken nowadays, you almost have to ask "whose laughing now?".

Iggy almost looks sort of crazed while he's flipping through the dictionary. The pursuit of knowledge--and bragging rights--must be pretty intense.

Seriously? SERIOUSLY!!??!! That's my favorite word. There's a song where you start with a nursery rhyme, and then end with ...Threw it out the window! The window! The second story window!

So like, "Old King Cole was a merry old soul, and a merry old soul was he- he called for his pipe and he called for his bowl and he THREW THEM OUT THE WINDOW!(you have to shout that part and start clapping really loud, or it loses some of its effect.) Yes, I know, I'm deranged. But I didn't make up the song.

Doesn't it now sound terrible wrong calling Constance Con? Oh man...Not that you should stop.
Also, dear Iggy, I love you in this evil happy smug mode.
And lol, poor Farrere. Such a silly word. It's the same in Czech (almost, as a noun - defenestrace) because it happened a lot here in the past with the officials
Anyway, thank you Eeba and FakeSinatra for teaching us words xD

Eeba-ism In reply to Iwrin [2009-12-08 12:28:24 +0000 UTC]

... I did not realise about Constance until you said that. That is really, really awkward. I mean, marginally awkward, because they spoke English at school.. but surely they would have realised.... I'll bet it was Phil's idea and then they just got used to it.
Really I was just falling victim to being Australian and not being able to deal with any name longer than one syllable. Did it ever strike you as odd that "Iggy" seems short enough and yet they call him "Ig"? Australians are lazy people when it comes to nick-names.
My aunt is from the Czech Republic (well, she escaped when it was Czechoslovakia), but the only word I know is "please" .. which I can say.. but not spell.. proisim? IDK D:

Iwrin In reply to Eeba-ism [2009-12-08 12:51:36 +0000 UTC]

I guess even French would call girl named Constance Con and wouldn't mean it to be vulgar Sometimes words just lose their original meaning.
But you've got relatives in all sorts of places, don't you? That's great And see, now you can say "prosΓm" and "defenestrace" - you'd be good if you ever arrived here xD
And hey, Czechs can be terrible with nicknames as well - sometimes they even make the name longer than it was in the original form, just to make it sound cute. That's why I like when you call Iggy Ig and Camille Cam... oh, I meant to ask, how do you actually pronounce Camille's name? I mean the "ille" part - with "L" or does it have more french-y sounding "cam-i-ye" (I'm terrible with transcribing pronounciation).

I suppose swearing in 'roper' French is different than swearing in the slightly butchered 'Canadian' French my family speaks. All of our swears have to do with church, pretty much (Save merde and a few others)

Off the top of my head there's tabernaque, host (Probably spelt wrong but idc right now. My nose hurts too much >8I), estee (fancy accents over the second last e)... That's all I can remember right now. I'm sure I'll think of more in the morning though. Hurr.

Also, defenestrate sounds innately dirty.

Eeba-ism In reply to WinterLark [2010-02-08 09:34:43 +0000 UTC]

ACTUALLLYYY.. the French that Enuins speak is very similar to Canadian French, because they speak "old French".. so.. closer to the Latin in some cases. Not that I could even begin to depict this, as I can't even speak "new French".. but I'll just say that and pretend its justified.

Eeba-ism In reply to Ascended-Anubis [2010-02-08 09:32:19 +0000 UTC]

It's awkward for me that like half the people who commented on this knew that word.. and I made this solely because my little brother said it to me the other day and we basically had the same conversation about it.. resulting in my conclusion that NO ONE must know that word if I didn't xDD

Ooooh dear, how presumptuous of me The worst part is that there's a French word for it, too, which is nearly exactly the same (curse you Latin-based languages, curse yooou) ....

So basically.. my joke is entirely null and void.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ascended-Anubis In reply to Eeba-ism [2010-02-08 15:39:20 +0000 UTC]

I know, I constantly make similar assumptions about odd words. Though I do like to boast about my rather expanded vocabulary I must admit I learned the word "Defenestrate" from a rather poorly done science fiction series. Learning happens in odd places for me. Very...very odd places.

The joke isn't really null and void hun, just a little...lessened. MAYBE NEXT TIME? D:
There's always another nickel word of the day over that dictionary based horizon.
