An elder son in wealthy high-ranking noble family, he grew up in luxury, yet he had a talent to magic and Arcane was his most passionate interest in his youth.

All this came to an end, when his father, Count Blackwood, ordered him to assume the position of chief inspector on a sea customs of capital's port. He had quickly fallen a victim to schemes of competing noble families, and was framed for machinations and disappearance quite important cargo destined for the Royal Army.

Should he be born as commoners, he would be drawn, quartered and dragged, but his high stance saved him. Sort of. He was sentenced to exile, stripped of titles and property and his right palm was chopped of by a Royal Executor, as a punishment for thievery from the crown. And that was not enoygh: a mage needs his nervous system intact to properly process Arcane energy, hence crippled mage is not a mage anymore. And that was one of the most devastating for Edward aspects of the situation.

Luckily for him he, trying to show off before a girl he was interested in, used his viscount's veto right to save one specific ginger rogue from the execution accurately the week before he got himself into trouble.
And that rogue was Fynn.

So when authorities threw Edward, an ex-viscount , out of the capital city, he managed to find him and, considering Edward being potentially usfull for several of rebel's schemes, took him into the unit. Along the story, Edward proven this idea to be quite right. He changed his attitude and overall worldview, and became quite a devoted member of the rebellion movement.

Also he met Mikkel, formerly crippled blacksmith, who advised him how to get his lost palm back.
