It helped the backstory and such. I mean it wasn't unnecessary so it was done well. It at had a point at least to it. It wasn't like other anime where they do that crap for no other reason. But he looked so epic in the original it was depressing seeing him a female at times. Nontheless I love the drawing here.

Unlike other animes, though he looked feminine, they didn't make his avatar a full on girl and had no sexual depictions of his character like body poses or revealing clothing. Mind you, they did do that to nearly ALL the actual female characters but at least they didn't do it with him.
