Description 'I'm proud of you, Gamma. I knew you'd be of use to me. All of you worthless hunks of junk, be gone!' -Dr Eggman (Sonic Adventure)

The third of my E-102 project pics.

Handrawn, colored in Paint with additional textures in Photoshop.

I admit the beam effects could have came out better, but this is about as good as I could get it.

EDIT (10th Nov 2007): Refined beam textures slightly to emulate the more violent effects.

This is lovely! Out of all the characters in Sonic Adventure (one of my best loved games of all time) I think Gamma's story is my favourite. I wish the was more fanart of Gamma.

I really love this. Such a great picture remembering an all but forgotten character and speculating on what his thoughts must have been when thinking back on the events before going rouge. Simply epic. Beautiful.

Do you know about Kingdom Hearts? I know about this music called "Strange Whispers"...it could very well fit with Gamma's grim realization of what failure on his part would automatically bring.

Ah yes; E102-Gamma. He was, in my opinion, the greatest out of all the E-series robots because he showed more emotion than the others ever did (although Omega was close to reaching the same level). Sadly, I never played Sonic Adventure, nor it's sequel. I've always wanted to, but I can't seem to get my hands on a Gamecube copy of either game.
Regardless, I knew about Gamma's story by watching Sonic X as well as reading a little bit into Sonic Adventure's stories.
Gamma's emotional evolution kind of reminded me slightly of WALL-E or even Johnny Five (from the movie Short Circuit).
Anyway; you are very good at making sonic art, and I commend you on your sure prowess in this field.
I have never read any of the Archie comics, or any Sonic comic. From where I live, not much fun stuff can be found.
From what I've heard, however, was that Gamma's story was disregarded or "thrown out the window" when it came to the comics. I can see your superb talent at what you do. Maybe one day you could draw a comic about Gamma's story in order to fulfill this lack? Unless, of course, you hate comics period...
Nevertheless, I like all your drawings, and doing all of this in Paint is itself quite a feat to behold.
Keep up the good work!

I always thought this was an interesting scene. Especially with Delta's look to Gamma, as though a plea for help, or perhaps just a final farewell, something we humans, who rely on facial expressions, can't notice.

I've got to say this is one of my favorite pieces of yours. The subject is very touching, but the coloring on this is what really amazes me. The fact that you did this on Paint with such a smooth coloring job is amazing! I really love the shining light especially, and the reflection on Gamma. Great work

True, then again he's pretty toned down compared to some of his more evil enterpretations (eg. SatAm and Archie).

E-122-Psi In reply to Backstabber-107 [2009-02-18 17:34:02 +0000 UTC]

And that game didn't revolve around Shadow?

It's more down to the fact he is the most prominant secondary character, with a lot of others getting shoved into the background. He was practically of equal billing to Sonic in SA2 and Rivals (I've heard the last boss in Rivals 2 ISN'T played by Sonic but by some of the newer roster) and he seemed to have more connection with the main story in Next Gen.

I stoped playing the games after sonic battle 2... I saw Saga doing porly at the newer games..... Sad to say but mario has just steped down the path of Mario, and rayman

I thought shado was a great caracter but not an any other game but battle2

and who is shade i know silver I found him a lame caractor... but loved the increased grafics they used in the game he was in!

Mario has stepped down the path of Mario?

Shadow was okay in SA2, even if he and that respective game were partially responsible for the series' 'dark and brooding' period. He also stole the spotlight a little too much (Next Gen revolved more around him really).

I can't really discuss Shade without spoilers, but I personally found her and the rest of the newcomers in Chronicles somewhat bland and underdeveloped. Next Gen was similarly wafer thin in character development.

I tend to prefer the characters who have depthful and versatile personalities, ones that can make you laugh and cry or yell '****-YEAH!!!' A lot of the previous additions are lacking in this department, though E-102 Gamma I certainly thought fit the bill.

Thanx.

True, they also had more depth and originality (I thought Shadow pushed it a little though, a clone of Sonic with rather adult subject matter). Some of the recent additions such as Silver and Shade seem to just be a quick attempt to reproduce such concepts and end up more like wafer-thin copies that aren't nearly as sympathetic or whole as the intial roster. Gamma was an incredibly heartwarming and depthful character (his character, story, even his theme music were moving and well implemented). The likes of Shade just seem one dimentional and a huge waste of potential, like the developers couldn't really be bothered with them like they were the former. Some of the retro characters seem to have diminished too (Tails is an extremely dull and lifeless character in the recent games)

Gamma's was one of the best stories from the 3D titles, maybe because it at least some sort of connection with the initial concepts.

A second moment of the most awesome Sonic-game ever... I'm really liking your work on the ol' Gamma.

This a good perspective of what's happening, the light-beams have a nice look to them. Plus I just gotta point out the awesomeness of that title and how it fit's well on the situation. Quite brilliant, sir! ^.^
