I know this is an older deviation, but I was searching art with Chaos Pro as I know much more can be done with it than meets the eye. This is wonderful. I'd love to know where and how to use formulas with it that do not come in the program.... thx

Hello there - thanks for multifaving.
As for ChaosPro:
1. there are multiple formulas for download here: formulas.ultrafractal.com/cgi/…
2. unpack them to any directory
3. open ChaosPro, click File -> Import -> Compiler Formulas and go to the folder where you've unpacked the archive
4. select all the files in the folder (CTRL + a) and click Import
5. wait several minutes
6. new formulas folder should appear in the tree after clicking on Formula tab -> Browse in Parameters docker
7. make sure you play with layers 'Layered Fractal' rather than use single 'Escape Time' fractal

If you need more help please send PM.

Searching for good mathematical formulas, tweaking parametres, panning, zooming, tweaking colours... etc. + some luck

Ive never quite seen anything like fractals, and this is extraordinary..is there a theme to it?

dwsel In reply to KaveriGeewhiz [2010-03-07 12:28:46 +0000 UTC]

You mean the story or meaning? Nope, this one doesn't have it. As far as I remember it was done in relaxed, non emotional state of my mind. Of course some of the fractals have their stories of emotions inside. It's up to artist what he puts into own art and what he reveals to public.

I'd say it's just a a bit striped version of UF (and with a bit tough interface ). I try to regularly update formula database, so I have access to almost all UF formulas (90% working very well). Somehow I got used to all flaws and my Linux system is very happily running it As always I try to use variety of software, even tiny freeware apps, and don't underestimate them as they can sometimes surprise you with possibilities

Oh, I used ChaosPro A LOT when I was learning about fractal art. A lot of my older stuff was done in it. Some of my favorite fractals were made in that program. I didn't even realize that would be great for Linux, too.

Not really that much
I was looking for a certain black and white base shape. I tried about 10 or 20 different complex colouring formulas but I couldn't tweak them to look the way I wanted to, then after that when I almost gave up fractaling that day I took something very simple and I said 'This is it!'. I finished it very fast with amount of textures and colours. And that's how it was made

I usually don't really "get" fractal art, but this piece speaks to me. It reminds me of the rocks at an island we sometimes used to visit when I was a child; perfectly rounded, covered in moss and lichen.
How do you make these things? Are there certain techniques, or do you just freehand them like any other picture?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dwsel In reply to AquaticApe [2009-04-23 11:01:28 +0000 UTC]

To create fractals you need some fractal editor. You basically choose there mathematic formula which generates your starting image, then you change its parameters, start to zoom, pan, rotate it to find interesting shapes, then you change colours... and repeat whole process until you're satisfied with textures, colours, gradients, shapes, overall composition. After that you're rendering your image at higher scale and higher quality, because what you see through creating process is only small, low quality window (no much usable for showing it to others )

Take a look at simple tutorials if you want to know more about this process:

I'm glad you like it
At the moment I left somewhere behind fractaling, but when I'll come back to it I hope to make more decorative spirals. They're well welcome - as more regular, harmonical pleasant to eye than ones with wild patterns and colours.
