Donald Duck and his family in Serbia - Celebrating Christmas and New Year in Traditional clothes and customs
Even though I’m late, I should definitely publish my new drawing related to traditional customs, from Europe, that is, from the country where I come from, from Serbia. Although it sounds strange, in the country where I live, Christmas and New Year are already celebrated, since it is mostly celebrated according to the old Julian calendar (which is 14 days later than the Gregorian calendar), so Christmas is celebrated on January 7 and New Year on January 14 . And not only Serbia, but also other Orthodox countries that adhere to the old calendar, as is done in Montenegro, North Macedonia, Greece, Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Georgia, Ethiopia and some other countries, celebrate those days (7th and 14th .January).
January 6 (what is December 24 in the Gregorian calendar) is Christmas Eve, January 7 is Christmas (the day of the birth of Jesus Christ), January 8 is the Assembly of the Blessed Virgin Mary, January 9 is St. Stephen’s Day and the Day of the Republic of Srpska (part of the Federation Bosnia and Herzegovina), January 11th is the Holy 14,000 newlyweds of Bethlehem (killed by the Judean king Herod the Great), January 13th is the Old Year, January 14th is the New Year according to the Julian calendar and Saint Basil the Great, January 18th is Cross Day, January 19 is Epiphany and January 20 is St. John the Baptist or in other words St. John’s Day and thus ends the Christmas season. At least in my country, where I live mostly in the middle where there are mostly Orthodox and Catholics. So happy holidays everyone!
Yes, I drew something related to my favorite characters to celebrate in my home country so I drew Donald, Daisy, Scrooge, Grandma Duck and Huey, Dewey and Louie wearing traditional Serbian clothes and celebrating Christmas customs. Men usually wear a šajkača (cap) with coats and trousers and trousers, while women wear a woolen skirt, vest (a type of women’s small coat), scarf, with a lot of embroidery and ornamentation on the clothes. It was the most difficult part of the work I did, although it was not the only time. Yes, Donald Duck carries a Christmas tree, i.e. an oak tree for burning (an ancient custom), and sometimes for decoration instead of a Christmas tree, and Scrooge McDuck is in the role of Božić Bata (a type of Santa Claus, i.e. Saint Nicholas), while Daisy Duck and Elvira Coot prepared Christmas meal (nuts, Christmas cake or bread, baked fish, apples) with wine, water and grain with a candle. It all symbolizes fertility for a successful harvest in the next year and thanks to God. And Huey, Dewey and Louie are looking forward to all these happenings as well as Božić Bata who brought them presents. This is my retro perspective of how the customs were at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, although these customs are still followed today. And music about this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=EC-T-7…
Yes, in my country Donald is called Paja Patak in Serbian, Daisy is Pata Pataković, Huey, Dewey and Louie are Raja, Gaja and Vlaja, Scrooge is Baja Patak, and Grandma Duck is Baka Kata. I hope you like this drawing and I want to draw various drawings of our heroes in traditional clothes around the world, but primarily from Europe. I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Mir Božiji, Hristos se rodi! Vaistinu se rodi! Мир Божији, Христос се роди! Ваистину се роди! С Рождеством!
Feel free to like and reblog this, but please do not use or copy these ideas without mentioning me. Thank you! And today is the New Year according to the Julian calendar.
